Topic: Discuss theories of motivation and how to apply them in the modern
workplace
Introduction
Motivation is defined as the process of inducing staff members of a company to act within a
predetermined desired manner in order to achieve organizational objectives. In addition to this,
motivation plays vital role as it helping developing positive working environment, increase
productivity, retain employees, enhanced profitability and many more (Breaugh, Ritz and Alfes,
2018). The report will cover various theories of motivation along with its application on modern
workplace.
Main Body
Motivation is one of the significant aspect in every organization and is the procedure to
stimulating employees to actions to attain objectives. There are various factors within an
organization that is stimulate staff members such as recognition, job satisfaction, teamwork,
desire for money, success and so on. There are various motivational theories used by an
organization in order to motivate its employees and retain them for longer time period. The
theories is given below:
Maslow’s need hierarchy
This theory believes that the needs of a person is shifted towards higher level when the
lower level need is fulfilled. Maslow state that one of the basic need is physiological and the
higher level need is self fulfillment. This theory consist of five needs that is discussed below:
Physiological need: it is considered as the basic level need that include food water,
shelter and so on. It is important for an organization to ensure that the salary paid to employees
fulfill their physiological requirements (Caputo, Carayannis and Cillo, 2018). These help staff
members to work without any mental pressure and put their full potential in order to meet with
the targets of company and achieve objectives timely.
