P5 Analysis of research as well as data with the help of suitable tools and techniques Research type: Qualitative and quantitative are the main two research types that can be
selected by the scholar. In research, scholar has prior requirement to assess the type of
research by keeping in the mind the aims and objectives of study. Moreover, selection of
further approaches such as data collection, analysis, approach and philosophy is highly
influenced from the nature of investigation selected. Hence, qualitative research is the
one which lay more emphasis on assessing underlying reasons or opinions (Gallardo-
Vázquez and Sanchez-Hernandez, 2014). On the other hand, quantitative research is
suitable when scholar is required to determine solution by making analysis of numeric

that can be used by the scholar to resolve the issue. Selection of such approaches is
highly affected from the type of investigation undertaken. Under inductive approach,
study starts with the observation and end via formulation of new theoretical framework
(Serrador and Turner, 2015). On the other side, deductive approach of the study helps in
determining suitable solution when quantitative investigation is conducted by the scholar.
Hence, in this approach, researcher starts with the existing theoretical framework and lays
more emphasis on the confirmation of hypothesis. Hence, in the present study, inductive
approach has been selected by the scholar with the motive to assess the impact of CSR
activities on marketing department in the context of John Lewis. Research Philosophy: In the research selection of philosophy must be in accordance with

undertaken by the researcher to determine suitable solution from the issue. Interpretivism
philosophy is highly appropriate for qualitative investigation type. On the contrary to this,
positivism philosophy proves to be beneficial when nature of research is quantitative.

Lewis qualitative investigation type has been selected by the researcher. Thus, by
considering such aspect interpretivism philosophy has been selected by the scholar. On

and other objectives such sampling technique has been employed by the scholar which in

outcome and its effectiveness. Data analysis techniques are also affected from the nature
and type of investigation undertaken. Hence, SPSS tool is applied by the researcher in the
case of quantitative facts and figures. In contrast to this, thematic perception technique is
