Background information
Acting on behalf of an insurance company, my major work will be to attend to a specialist vessel
in the port of Kingston upon Hull. This vessel is purposefully utilized in the transportation of
wind turbines blades across the Atlantic Ocean to the east coast of brazil. However, the wind
farm company decided to undertake its own transportation by the employed staff within the
department. The task ahead encompasses conducting an inspection of the ships as well as
monitoring of the procedures and the contractual warranties.
Incident
In the previous voyage, an accident was experienced whereby two blades did get broke from the
positions in which they were stowed and eventually getting unrepairable damage resulting into
several delays in the construction of the wind farm. My objectives in conducting the warrant
survey would, therefore, be as detailed in the subsection below
Objectives
To conduct a warrant survey on the vessel in Kingston upon hull
Aims
The specific tasks that will be conducted during the warrant survey would include:
1) To determine the actual cause of the incident
2) To determine whether the failure would have been avoided/ was as a result of human
error.
Vessel description
The design was built by Hennie Randy group in Germany. As reported by the manufacturer of
the vessel, it is a center cockpit, with double spreader sloop rig having a main furling and a

hydraulic roller jib. Below the teak decking, the construction of the hull is by solid fiber-
reinforced plastic. The design of the hull is heavily built with eight cabins which rests on the two
fore cabins, the aft cabin as well as the salon berths. Additionally, the vessel is having two
private showers, a large dinette settee, galley, an extensive electronic navigation package, and a
navigation station. This information is obtained from the private owner of the vessel.
General information
The general information is an assumption which is obtained from a vessel which a warrant
survey report was conducted on

The preparations for conduct such an assessment
Prior to conducting any warrant survey, the representative conducting the survey on
behalf of the insurance company needs to protect themselves. This is because, there are a number
of reasons associated with undertaking the duty, including legal implications (Colson & Divine,
2018). This implies that I will first conduct research to comprehend the legal entity of the
insurance which I purpose to conduct the survey on their behalf. In this manner, I will be
acquitted with the major purpose of conducting the want survey, which will be: to determine the
actual cause of the incident as well as to determine whether the failure would have been avoided/
was as a result of human error.
By having a clear background on the purpose of the survey, the surveyor gains a basic
understanding of marine insurance as well as the reasons for performing the warranty. By
extension, it is also acquitted with the types of expectations and the types of warranties which are
being required of the activity (Farris et al., 2018). All this information will serve as my legal
protection as a warranty surveyor. The tools which I would require to utilize in partaking the role
would include
Assessing the design criteria or rather the operational limitations which have so far been
established (Gerritsen & Moore, 2018)
Verifying and reviewing the design calculations, operational manuals, drawings as well
as the procedures which have been put into place.
Independent engineering calculations with the aim of validating the design calculations
which have been presented thereof by the project (Harbertson et al., 2019).

Conducting a feasibility and suitability survey of the equipment and the vessels.
