NHS Smoke-free Health Harm advertising campaign
Smoking is injurious to health, as it adversely influences the heart and lungs of
people. Regardless of this fact young people, consume cigarettes regularly. Even the
cigarette packets come with the legal warning "SMOKING KILL," still this addiction has
become common in the young generation. It not only impacted the health of youngsters
but also caused air pollution as it emits toxic components, which affect the ecosystem
( Chauhan & Sharma , 2017).
However, majority of the people in United Kingdom, have realized its seriousness
and are now consulting a medical professional and counselors to overcome this
addiction Attributing to this, it has becomes a major concern for the government as
many people lost their life due to inhalation of smoke( Volker, 2013,)..
Therefore, to create awareness on the In UK, NHS started an Anti-Smoking
advertising campaign under the name of NHS Smoke-free Health Harm advertising
campaign in 2013, to influence youngsters so that with New Year, smokers can take a
resolution to quit smoking (World Health Organization, 10 facts on gender and tobacco,
2010).
Teenagers and youngsters are the audience of this campaign, because on
average base, every 9 in 10th youth started smoking from the age of 18 ,and 98% of the
young population has stating consuming cigarettes by 26. Moreover in Uk, every year
96,000 people lost their lives in which every 20th smoker is suffering from diseases
caused due to smoking. Men consume all kinds of tobacco and in 200 million people, 1

million women are chain smokers. On an annual basis, 1.5 million females lost their
lives due to excessive smoking. Moreover, 8 million people die due to used excessive
consumption of tobacco, in which 7 million people are killed due to direct inhalation of
tobacco and 1.12 million are non-smokers who doe due to coming in contact with these
direct component (Centre for Diseases Control and prevention , 2018).
This smoke-free campaign implies that with reducing the consumption of smoke
will help the youth in overcoming the addiction. This eye-catching advertisement
highlights the severe damage of inhaling smoke.
To highlight the adverse impact of smoking, NHS Smoke-free Health Harm
advertising campaign was initiated by the organization where with the help of graphic
they broadcasted the dirty blood caused by inhalation of harmful chemicals of smoke.
These poisonous chemicals get to enter into the blood, which damages and weakens
the major organs of the body. As per the research published by the England Journal of
Medicine, it was analyzed that individuals who smoke regularly likely to die early then
the non-smoker, (National Health Service , 2019).
The campaign was started in 2013 in a form of television add show, which was,
later launched on different media. It was published in a form of posters and the form of
an article in the magazine. Later the organization launched a video with the same on the
social platform like YouTube, Instagram, and Pinterest. It was printed as billboard to ban
the smoking in public areas.
The campaign has created an positive impact on the youngsters as this creative
approach of dealing with the adverse impact of smoking has proven to effective and
