Literature review
This is known as one of the most essential component of research as this support in
collection of relevant data require to carry out investigation. Different secondary sources and
material are used by investigator such as books, article, research papers and many more.
To identify the significance of employee’s motivation in context of an organisation
Employee’s motivation can be define as the level of their commitment, energy and
creativity that they bring with them to do their jobs. Every company find various ways to
motivate workers to attain their set goals and objectives (Fiaz, Su and Saqib, 2017). Employees
play a crucial role in success of an organisation so keep them motivated is essential for every
enterprise. Motivated workers bring a level of enthusiasm at workplace that help in create and
maintain a productive culture at workplace. In context of ASDA, it is very essential for both
managers and leaders of entity to make the entire workforce motivated so they can perform their
job roles in effective manner and company can attain its set goals with given time period.
Motivated workers are the one that improve productivity of enterprise, improve their
commitment, offer job satisfaction to them and many more. All these are the major benefits
associated with motivated workforce at enterprise so it is very essential for ASDA to make their
employee’s motivated towards their job roles and responsibilities.
To determine the role of employee’s motivation in success and growth of an organisation
Employees or workforce of an organisation is known as one of the most essential assets
of every organisation as there are the one who perform number of job roles at workplace and
help company in better satisfy the needs and wants of its target customers. Actions and decision

To study various motivational theories that could be use by ASDA to motivate its employees
According to McQuerry L. 2019, Motivation is a term which describe the desire of an act
in order to achieve goals and objectives and also considered as the crucial element in developing
and attaining prominent goals and objectives. Motivation has many sources and for this people
have many motives as it can be intrinsic which depicts that inspiration come from inside and
extrinsic depicts that inspiration comes from outside forces (7 Techniques for Increasing
Motivation, 2020). In relation to ASDA, various motivational theories are used by company to
motivate their employees to improve and enhance their overall performance that are discussed as
underneath:
Alderfer's ERG theory: This theory believes that each need carry some sort of values and
also divided under lower and higher needs as some of the levels gets overlap in terms of
physiology, security and social needs also with the tiny line among social, esteem and self
actualisation (Kuranchie-Mensah and Amponsah-Tawiah, 2016). As this theory comprises
Maslow's needs and its classification is discussed as under:

physiology and safety factor of human beings and also include the prerequisite related to

the survival (Hur, Moon and Ko, 2018). For this, both the needs of Maslow are grouped
into one category as for the same nature and also influences the behaviour of individual. Relatedness needs: These needs describe the social needs that a person required to
develop relationships. For this, these needs include the Maslow's social needs and also
become the part of esteem needs that is derived form the relationship with other people. Growth needs: For this, these needs cover the self actualisation needs and also become
the part of esteem needs including the internal to the individual like feeling of being
unique and personal growth. For this, growth needs impacts the person to show their full
potential in the existing atmosphere.
Herzberg's motivation-hygiene theory: It is proposed by Frederick Herzberg and
considered as two factor theory as according to this, there are various job factors which can
satisfy the needs to individual and other factors prevent dissatisfaction. This theory study various
variables that are perceived to be desirable to attain goals and objectives and also useful in
avoiding undesirable situations (Menges and et. al., 2017). In relation to describe it with ASDA
various elements are discussed as: Hygiene factors: This theory is useful in identifying and maintaining hygiene factors that
are not become the part of intrinsic but also related to the conditions in which effective
job needs to be performed. For this, it becomes the policy of ASDA and applies in the
administration, technical supervision, job security, working conditions, personal life and
so on.
Motivational factors: This factors put positive impact on the functioning of company and
employees as there are many factors which motivate employees such as recognition,
achievement, advancement, possibility of growth and so on (Howard and et. al., 2016).
Increment in these factors helps in satisfying their employees and decrement in these
factors does not impact the level of satisfaction.
To determine the various barriers that company face to motivate its workers
According to Eschbach R. 2018, In order to motivate employees, effective
communication is important as it is useful in conveying things in proper manner. Productivity is
the lifeline of any business and for this, employers work extra by expecting long working hours
and in relation with this, they make extreme demand regarding their efforts (Five Barriers to
Success and Motivation, 2020). For this, its consequences include demotivation and

unproductive team and also describe various barriers that arises while motivating the employees
of ASDA. For this, various barriers which occurs in relation with ASDA are discussed as under: Poor communication skills: Writing and speaking in clear manner is important to
achieve success for this, listening plays an essential role as without this, communication
remain incomplete. Communication is the key to motivate employees regarding
performing their job roles. For this, talking is important with friends and family
concerning the vision as it helps in improving and practising the communication skills
(Mikkelsen, Jacobsen and Andersen, 2017). This can become challenging but also
become helpful in order to understand proper communication suited on which condition.
Improvised communication skills is useful in self advocating and also contribute towards
the success. Availability of resources and opportunities: In order to learn and take control suitable
skills are required to seek out the resources which is helpful in building effective skills.
For this, many employees does not get the presence and availability of resources in
adequate amount as it can impact the vision and attitude towards the loss of vision. This
can cause lack or shortage of resources and opportunities. For this, resources and
company should be in supportive nature with effective vision and does not find
satisfaction with one resource.
Clarity and uncertainty: It defines the clarity and transparency regarding the target and
objectives. As if manager and employees both are not clear with their words then its can
develop difficulty in order to attain goals and objectives. For this, breaking down goals
into measurable targets becomes easier to sustain and obtain motivation level. For this,
developing clear outcomes is useful in identifying and determining the success factor that
provide sense of accomplishment (Liu and et. al., 2016). For this, responsibility plays an
important role in order to achieve effective goals and objectives and also clearly describe
them in an effective manner. Moreover, blaming can also become another factor as it can
hinder the overall performance of employees as most of time blame each other while
giving justification for the lack of progress. As in regard of this, employers and managers
of ASDA need to guide their employees and also remove arising awkwardness among
their employees.

Research methodology
This section specified that specific techniques and procedures followed by researcher to gather
and analyse the data. This allows target audience to evaluate the validity of study.
Sources of data collection: Collection of data is known as one of the most essential part
of research. Number of sources are there that can be use by researcher to collect data for
research. Primary and secondary are the two major type of sources that could be used by
researcher. Primary method of data collection is the one in which researcher use questionnaire,
survey and observations. Main benefits of this method of data collection is that it helps
researcher in gather first hand and useful data for the research but at the same time is very costly
and time consuming. Secondary sources of data collection consist use of books, journals and
websites. Use of primary source for current research work ensures more authentic data collection
directly from respondents and also lead collection of up to data. Further, use of secondary
sources ensures better framework and support for current investigation.
Research method- out of two vital research method i.e. qualitative and quantitative use of
quantitative seems more suitable for current research as it lead to easy and presentation of data in
numeric terms.
Research philosophy: This concept of research is divided into two section interpritivism
and positivism. For this project, researcher will use positivism philosophy as this support in
analyse quantitative data. Use of positivism philosophy ensures a more practical and scientific
research thus, useful for current investigation.
Research approach: Inductive and deductive are the two major approaches of research.
For present research, deductive research approach will be used because this as this make the
process of data analysis more easy. Inductive approach will not be used in present research as
this requires more time and resources. Use of deductive approach is made for current
investigation as it lead to more better analysis and evaluation of quantitative research data.
Outline of potential findings
The potential findings of current research work would includes a better understanding about
the concept of employee’s motivation in context of an organisation together with determination
of role of employee’s motivation in success and growth of an organisation. Beside this, the
current investigation wills also facilitates a better study and knowledge about various
