PROJECT SCOPE STATEMENT
MCMILLIAN MOBILE TECHNOLOGY PROJECT
Project description
McMillan is an electronic organization that manufactures electronic appliances such as wires, bulbs, lamp
holders, switches and circuits among others. From the time of its establishment, the company has enjoyed
a lucrative performance with an increasing market share within the United States and beyond. Due to the
worthwhile and leveraging performance of the company, it has managed to extend its operations in many
areas around the UK. In other words, the company has extended many branches to other localities, both
locally and internationally.
Justification of the project
Nonetheless, there are increasingly many entrants into the industry due to the abnormal profits being
enjoyed by the few companies especially McMillan. The new firms entering the into the market are
employing high levels of technology in both the production and marketing strategies. In this essence, the
new firms have become substantial and significant threats to the existing companies, McMillan in
particular. This calls for the stakeholders of the company to critically examine, analyze, evaluate and
identify the most optimistic strategies of how the company can maintain or even improve its performance
amidst the many new and existing firms in the industry (ul, Ahmad, & Zuhaira, 2018, p.233).
From the preceding problem statement, the stakeholders of McMillan electronics have reached a decision
to develop, upgrade and integrate new and advanced technology in their operation, both production and
marketing. In other words, the top management of the company have analyzed, examined and evaluated
the state of firm and identified some of the challenges being faced by the organization, among which the
main issues included poor communication among the stakeholders/ communication barriers, poor
business to customer interaction, (B2C), poor marketing strategies, and deprived customer satisfaction
(Shirazi, Kazemipoor, & Tavakkoli, 2017, p. 406).

As a strategy of solving some of the identified issues, the company has contracted Maxie solutions to
develop a mobile application to improve and facilitate communication among the stakeholders including
the customers, employees, and the top management of the firm (ul, Ahmad, & Zuhaira, 2018, p.233). The
app will also permit online transactions, where customers are able to remotely buy products and have it
delivered at their places of comfort. The application is also expected to allow real time live chat between
the customers and sales support of the company, employee to employee communication, employee to
administrators, and administrator to administrator communication. The app will keep track of all the
communications taken for further references. additionally, the application will be location enabled so as
to allow the location of different employees and company clients (Ubani, Ibeawuchi, & Ukwuoma, 2015,
p.20).
It is expected that by the end of the project implementation, the firm will be able to significantly improve
on its performance, that is to say; a significant reduction in the operational costs, improved
communication among all the involved stakeholders of the firm, and a noticeable improvement in
customer satisfaction (Bingham, & Gibson, 2016)
Project objectives
The project will aim at resolving the identified issues being faced by the firm by offering a platform/
mobile application that helps in improving communication among the stakeholders. In short, the
objectives of the project are as follows;
To improve communication between/ among company administrators
To facilitate administrator to employee communication
To provide real time chat between customers and company sales representatives
To aid online ordering of the company goods
To provide a platform for customer reviews and feedbacks
Project deliverables

The project execution and implementation process should be able to satisfy the projective objectives. In
other words, the project closure should ensure the following deliverable;
A well-developed application that supports both android operating system and iOS integrated with
features that allow
Customer to company representative communication
Login and personal account enabled for both customers, employees and administrators
Internet access enabled
App available online for download for all smart phones users/ customers

Project Assumptions
There are increasingly many new firms entering the electronic production market
The new entrants are employing/ adapting high levels of technology
McMillan technologies employed are outdated and backwards
The project will maximumly take six months for its implementation and completion
There are enough funds to finance all the needed equipment of the project
A budget of $ 1m will be required for the project completion
The IT specialists to be employed are highly specialized
Project anticipated risks and ranking
Just like any other project, it is typically true that there are always risks involved during project execution.
The anticipated risks during the project execution include but not limited to the following;

Project constraints
some of the issues likely to be faced during project execution which may limit the effectiveness and
success rate of the project may include possible shortage of resources, unwillingness of some project
stakeholders to engage in the project i.e. stakeholders with low interest, prevalent poor communication
among the project team members, and incompatibleness of subunits during sub-unit integration (Kerzner,
2017, p.75)
project dependencies
the success of implementation will depend on a series of variables among which will include; the
willingness of the stakeholders to learn the new system, user interface (UI) friendliness of the developed
app, ability of the customers to download the application from the app stores, the consent of the relevant
authorities, and the level of expertise of the developers (Ogunberu, Olaposi, & Akintelu, 2016)
Stakeholders of the project
The project stakeholders will include all persons involved/ may be affected by the implementation of the
project. These include but not limited to;
The project sponsors i.e. McMillan electronic company
The project contractor
The internal IT team members
The external IT members
The employees of McMillan electronic company
The board members of the organization
Document Page
The customers of McMillan firm
The competitors of the firm
Individual team deliverables;
a)
i. Project requirement; it is typical that for the project to effectively be implemented,
there are specific requirements. The requirements will include; storage devices,
security patches, networking cables, latest computers, backup systems, and expert
developers.
ii. Budget allocation; it is anticipated that the whole project will need a total of $1, 500,
000 for its effective completion, purchasing all the required resources and other
expenses.
iii. End user resources and training; after a successful development launching of the
mobile appl, it is expected that the stakeholders of the firm will be trained on how to
use the app. These will include the McMillan employees, administrators and the
customers. The resources needed for the application usage will include internet
access, smartphones, and access to different app stores such as google play
(Ogunberu, Olaposi, & Akintelu, 2016, p.34).
iv. Staffing to support the program; the main individuals needed for the
implementation of the application are the IT experts. Nonetheless, they will have to
be boosted by the project major stakeholders of the firm such as the project sponsors,
and supervisors. The IT team will include; technical writers, analysist, art director,
project manager, backend developers, mobile developers, visual designers, quality
assurance testers, and web developers for administrative purposes (Kerzner, &
Kerzner, 2017)
