Title: A written Blog on media representation of crime
Discussion:
Media representation have caused to overestimating the level of crimes in the globe. TV,
print media and the internet have influenced the public perceptions and their understanding of
crimes in the world. According to these media the crimes are very high which have made the
world a frightening place to live in. Media presents unexpected and random crimes which makes
the individuals think like they can be the next victims of those events as well. Various crimes are
over-reported in various media such as print, online and TV. The crimes reported are violet
crimes, crimes by mentally ill people and crimes by young people etc. (Xuereb, 2019). As per the
official crime statists most of the crimes reported are non-violent. However the media suggest
opposite. It have been seen that the new bulletins in media features the over presentation of
violent crimes, youth as perpetrators of crime and children as victims of those crimes. These
media reports does not analyse the underlying causes of crime which can be social factors. As a
result, it contribute in the moral panic all over the world and outrages towards some groups such
as youth or others.
Raising awareness of issues via media platforms can help in creating awareness to the
general audience that the world is not a frightening place to live in. As now the use of social
media have increased on another level, people use the social media to get information and to read
the latest news. However, increased use of social media have also contributed in over
representations of those crimes as well (Mirkhalili and Azizi, 2019). With the introduction of
social media, people have started to rely on these media to form their opinions regarding crime.
If social media is used well, it can help the general public in providing information which is real
and quick. It provides the public an access to communicate their real events and events on a
global level. The law enforcement and the communities should work together so that they can
fight crime and make the world a safe place to live. The public needs to be educated regarding

the over-reporting of crimes and their consequences as well. Most of the public believes what
they see on TV. So in these cases, the government should intervene and decides what these
media channels and report and what not. Another way to enhance the awareness is that there
should a public media which is controlled by the official parties and does not over reports the
crimes. This way the public will get the real crimes without over-estimations (Nilsson, 2021).
The effective ways to message to audience is to report the authentic crimes what actually have
happened. The media should provide the information which is real and should not over judge the
situation.

The role and impact of media in 21st century world.
This report is stating the concept of role and impact of media in the 21st century. In general,
media plays a major and vital role in the global surrounding. Media are started in the 1920s and
now in 21st century it has been spread all over the universe. The role and responsibility of media
are to provide an information of various sector through the different and numerous resources.
Informing the entire world population about the current affair and latest fashion and details
through many objectives. Media are a huge platform where people can communicate through the
internet services and provide the message. It is a great tool and device from which a person can
be able to interact with one or many people or an information. Today, in 21st century media is
everywhere and includes many sources as newspaper, television, radio, internet things and even
magazines(Pickard, 2019). All are the part of mass media communication and provide an
effective result in all the departments. Society is so much influenced with the media and its
factors as there all the activities can be done easily with the help of mass media. The power of
truth is linked with welfare of the people and society. It is necessary to bring out the truth in front
of the public and aware them with such activities happens in the world.
Let's elaborate this power of media in understanding manner. It has been already discuss that
media has its own power to reveal the truth in front of the public. To understand this media
functions, taking the help of a real based example Rupert Murdoch who is a media tycoon and
owns its empire of influencing the remade world. At the age of 22years, Rupert balance the chain
of Australian newspaper after the death of father in 1952. Now, Rupert is one of the most
powerful person in the media sector. Murdoch is also a great businessman and investor along
with the media tycoon. Rupert is already aware of the media usage, its power and how it can be

implemented to the business organization. Using the mass media platform, many companies can
overwhelm the business development. In this century, along with media technology is also
increasing rapidly and can effect the business occupation. Here, describing the various factors
from which media can be powerful at the individual and organization.
Positive Impact
Encourage the online learning : Through the media, learning skills and abilities can be
increased. In this modern era, people want to improve their knowledge regarding the activities
going in the universe. Thus, it can be benefited for education learner or a business man both
requires the information and ideologies to exhibit their work or performance.
Boost the economy : Media is the best source nowadays for generating the economical values.
Looking at organization benefits then, many companies utilizes the media structure which
includes the Facebook, twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn profiles from which they can attain the
information and also promote their goods and services at a global level. Because of this it also
increases the economy shares of the particular country and region(Olufunke, and Oghenekaro.,
2020).
Negative Impact.
Distraction : Nowadays, rapid increase of technology is harming the teenage education as they
are always being busy in the social websites and which creates a lot of distraction from these
studies. This distraction directly impact their education and with the time it will also affect the
global environment education and employment.
Cyberbullying : With the improvement of technologies and mass media things such as internet
cyberbullying is also increasing day by day. During this Covid, many of the industries
information and data was hacked and leaked by cyber -crime. At other side, people also bully the
another human for such activities.
Contemporary social issues with digital and social media
Functionalism and media pluralism
In the media functionalism and pluralism it is assumed that the power is visible. This approach is
the structure of the society which is based on the equilibrium of forces which involves
complex layers and balances of social control (Parodi, 2018). In order to maintain social
order, the approach builds an assumption of consensual unity and also reduces the difficult
political social issues regarding authority and power to legitimation and examination of

dominant social systems. The communication reports have shared the tenets of existing
paradigms because he pluralists have provided the dominant working assumptions for the
mainstream social sciences in the last few years. It means there is a belief that world is only
knowledgeable through the application of various scientific methods or with the help of
objectivity of observations as well as with the power of empirical explanations (Karppinen,
2018).
However, some authors have also pointed out that there is a limited scope for various pluralist
studies of communication in a theoretical research and perspectives. So the pluralists tend
for approaching the communication production as original, free and creative as well. With
this view of communication can be gained from the model of power and the notion which it
adopts. It focus majorly on the formulation centre and the focus on the individuals. The
functionalism suggests that the common perspective of the mass media s shared common
experience which binds the society all together. There is a difference between the
manifested which is intended and latent that is hidden functions of the media (Ifeanyi and
et.al., 2021). It believes that the media contributes to benefit the society, however the media
today only focus on generating profits for its own good.
Nowadays, social media is rapidly increasing day by day and affecting the global environment. It
is already known that the media is supplying the information all over the world which includes
one of the major and most usable resource digital or social media. In previous time, before the
invention of digital media people get the information from offline sources like newspapers and
magazines(Field, 2020). They were the most used resources at the previous time. Contemporary
media includes these objectives and put the effects on the society. Karl Marx has stated a theory
behind the media, in which it has illustrated the concept of social issues regarding the mediation.
The reconciliation between two objective to the third party denote the Marxist theory of media.
In media studies, medium is a message of such objects like book and CD. Contemporary social
issues regarding the digital media is demonstrating the concept of interaction between people.
Human creatures are available on the social media platform which in decreasing the physical
communication among people. It is obvious that every individual is busy with their schedules
and work activities but because of digital media people are getting lazy and not interested to go
out of their places or houses and interact with people on the body(Twenge and et.al., 2019).

Apart from this, digital media is increasing the risk of hacking and stolen the information at
business or personal level. Society is suffering from these kinds of major issues in surrounding.

CONCLUSION
In this report, it has been concluded the concept of media and digital media. The report
demonstrated the media blog at first and later on it is describing the contemporary issues related
to digital media. Along with this, it also mentioned the role of the media in the 21st century
including its positive and negative impacts. At last, the article is displaying the reflective journal
which is making the report more understandable and effective.
