INTRODUCTION
A medical letter helps the healthcare individuals to impart information about the medical
history and diagnosis of the patient. This particular letter is a statement summarizes the rationale
for treatment of the patient. The use of medical terminologies facilitates the process of
communication among healthcare workers along with the management of patient documentation.
The main focus is to save time by treating patients instead of explaining the meaning of these
terminologies (Vazquez & Klinger, 2020). This project highlights the interpretation and
application of medical terminologies in a medical letter and practice. The discussion also

UTILISATION OF MEDICATION TERMINOLOGIES
Interpretation of written instructions
Written instructions enable healthcare workers to accomplish tasks. The use of
appropriate medical terminologies ensure consistency and avoid them chances of the
misinterpretation of information. The use of medical terminologies is often similar to learning a
new language. The main aim of conversation between healthcare workers is to ensure delivery of
correct message.

It is a request to draft a referral for Mrs. Jamie Smyth to Endocrinologist Dr. Alex
Jueregensen's consultation. The patient has reported that she has moved to her new residential
which is 58 Bowen Bridge Rd, Bowen Hills 4006. The patient is reportedly suffering from
hypertension. Therefore, the patient is required to indulge in a heart healthy diet and decrease the
salt consumption in their diet. Maintaining a healthy weight and consistent physical activity will
help in the treatment of hypertension for Mrs. Jamie Smyth. The patient was also administered
with first line treatment for hypertension including Accupril 5mg BD (twice daily). For the last 8
months, the patient has been suffering from increased alopecia, sudden increase in weight and
reduced ability for peripheral perfusion along with high levels of fatigue (Qamar & Braunwald,
2018). The TSH levels were found to be 5.6 indicating subclinical hypothyroidism. The T3 and
T4 levels were found to be 2.1 and 4.6 respectively (Fang, Karakiulakis & Roth, 2020). Due to

these observations, it can be concluded that there are thyroid related issues in the patient.
Therefore, the use of Accupril was ceased and levothyroxine 100mcg daily was commenced.
After the administration of Levothyroxine, there were no irregularities observed on TSH, T3, T4
and BSL levels.
