1. Introduction
1.1 Project Description
Recently, the Gulf Region has seen a boom in furniture business and has become one of
the most successful furniture industries in the world. One startup company in UAE has looked
into this opportunity and wants to set up a furniture business based in UAE. This project is based
on the initiation of the proposed new furniture business in UAE. For this particular project, a
workshop venue will be selected along with the development of a website. The company will sell
the furniture through online booking and hence, there will be no requirements for physical retail
store.
The first condition provided for the project is that there should be no delay as the opening
ceremony for the business is fixed and all project work must be completed before that date. The
company expects the project reach to be 40% once it is executed and the business is successfully
initiated. The project has been started on 18th February 2019 and is expected to be completed on
20th February 2020. The budget for the project is set at 2 million AED.
1.1.1 Project Overview
In Abu Dhabi, customers generally have to spend a lot of money on furniture as these are
currently very expensive in the Gulf market. Moreover, a lot of time is lost as the customers have
to visit the retail stores, view various products and then purchasing a particular furniture product.
The main focus of this proposed business is to ensure the customers receive highest quality
products at their monetary expenses instead of brand value. The use of online system will enable
the customers to view the products online and order the furniture they like. This will save a lot of

time as well as effort. The company has planned to produce furniture of different kinds such that
the customers will be able to find all the items they may need to furnish their bedroom or study.
The company has proposed that through their online business website, a customer will be able to
order single and double beds, armchairs, cushion chairs, sofas and other furniture products. The
workshop will be located in Abu Dhabi so that the furniture can be delivered to the customers at
minimal delivery costs. The company will also produce customized furniture based on the
customer demands and requirements.
1.2 Project Objectives
The primary objective of the company is to make pieces of furniture such as armchairs,
beds, cushion chairs, and sofas. The company also wants to work in accordance with the
preferences of citizens of Abu Dhabi related to styles and materials. At the same time, the
company wants to establish an effective collaboration with a lot of private customers and
representatives of hotels located in Abu Dhabi. After setting up the business, the company looks
to provide the customers with an opportunity to order pieces of furniture made with customized
designs with the highest quality and products with competitive prices.
The ultimate target of the company is to become popular among customers in Abu Dhabi
within an year and use a wide range of materials such as wood, leather, imitation leather, fabric,
metal (for the details) after the business is well established and popular among the customers.

The project will be based on 12 different and interlinked phases in which various
activities of the project will be executed. These phases include Initial Discussion Phase,
Workshop Location Selection Phase, Permission and License Application Phase, Finance
Planning Phase, Organisation Structure Development Phase, Resource Estimation Phase,
Expense Forecast Phase, Business Resource Procurement Phase, Tool Purchasing Phase, Staff
Recruitment Phase, Marketing Campaign and Website Creation Phase and finally the Opening
Ceremony Phase. Each of these phases include critical activities that are related to the
development and setting up of the new furniture business in Abu Dhabi. The critical success
criteria of the project include a quality workshop for production of high quality furniture and a
website through which the company will be conducting the business.
2. Project Schedule and Time Analysis
2.1 Project Milestones Schedule
A milestone is defined as a specific point in the project that signifies achievement of a
specific deliverable / goal of the project. A milestone is generally represented with zero duration
within a project gantt chart.

In this project, there are 11 milestones over the activities as specified. The proposed
milestone schedule for the project is shown in the following table.
