The Impact of Positive Mental Health on Career and Nursing

TASK 2- REFLECTION
This assessment is based on the effects of implementation of PERMA Model on my job
as a psychiatrist. Personally, I deal with cases which are gloomy and socially deviated in terms of
negative emotions. However, by adopting all the five key points of this theory, I successfully
maintained the positive environment around me and realised its significance in my clientele' list.
It is one the new theories that is in relation with the mental well-being of people and has
emphasised on the usage of positive emotions by engaging into positive relationships through
valuing and accomplishing the objectives and goals. This model has given inputs in the most
profound manner through enhancing the cognitive ability with emotional quotient (Kern and
et.al., 2015). Moreover, well-being is not a unidimensional concept; it is built on a multi-faceted
framework that assists in maintaining the societal well-being. Thus, I took advantages from this
model and generated awareness about the mental health and its related prognosis among my
patients.
As per Seligman's theory, it is clearly indicated that negative outlook or perception is not
interlinked with the five domains of this model (Khaw and Kern, 2014). Nonetheless, I analysed
that this model has separated independent entities that helped me in measuring behaviour and
attitude of an individual towards life. When my patients visit me, they are plagued with
uncertainties and dilemmas which caught them in the vicious cycle of self doubt and low
confidence. Lastly, I organise sessions on regular intervals to assess their mental health system to
understand the association between the psychiatric emergencies and other external factors that
affect them.

TASK 3-REPORT
Introduction
Mental health and well-being of individuals is an integral component for sustaining a
healthy lifestyle. At professional level of nursing, it is significant in developing productivity at
societal norms by addressing the problem arenas in better manner (Grob, 2014). This assignment
is based on dealing with various aspects in context to healthy mental system of individuals and
its conceptual framework. It will enlighten the implications of promoting policies and adopting
strategies for better implementation of nursing practices. Nightingale Hospital has been taken
into consideration for emphasising on the need of making static moves in the nursing area
towards bringing radical changes in uplifting the consciousness among the public for enhanced
effectiveness and productivity.
Interventions
It is defined as the intentional action that infers to any change by employing strategies for
improving the current status of health in individuals through nursing practices. In regard to the
same, interventions related to the stress management has been classified into three categories
such as primary, secondary and tertiary. The major purpose is to prevent the occurrence of stress
and promote the well being of individuals at both personal and professional levels (Carroll and
et.al., 2018). In extreme situations, these interventions adopted by nurses can help in minimising
the level of stress and help in smooth running of working practices.

Moreover, primary, secondary and tertiary interventions are inter-connected and leads to
management of stress by coping with the existing challenges in systematic order. These are
useful in bringing changes for the nurses in terms of managing the redesigning of schedules,
improving interactive frameworks, promoting health through encouraging to adopt exercise or
any training and more. Mainly, the assessment and evaluation techniques are useful for nurses
who lack the respect and justiciable equality in the primary level for better understanding of
drawbacks and shortcomings of individuals by following a concrete plan. It involves several
tools and procedures that would support the practitioner nurses such as mindfulness training,
therapies related to cognitive behaviour, adopting yoga, meditation exercises. There can be
execution of educational programmes like EAP with personal skill development sessions to
combat stress in effective manner.
Strategies and Policies
Resilience is an ability of an individual that supports in coping up with any adverse
situation or crisis. It helps the nurses in sustaining the mental health system of people by
safeguarding them against any ill effects on the mind and body. Moreover, it emphasis on
adopting few strategic approaches by them that comprehensively nurture the growth and
development of individuals. One must be goal oriented and ambitious to follow and develop a
sense of purpose by avoiding any obstacles or improve on the weaknesses. There must be use of
cognitive restructuring plan to segregate these nurses responsibilities on priority base and help in
avoiding procrastination for better handling of emergency or any problem.
Department of Health, UK initiated a national plan called “No health without Mental
Health” that targeted people of all the ages. It is one of the cross government strategy to promote
the well being of people (Patton and et.al., 2016). This strategic decision was made to improve
the mental health of individuals by bridging the gaps between them and the nursing practitioners
and bring transformational modification in a long term aspects. Moreover, it shed light on the
need of psychiatric services to give quality based services to impart positive experience in
patients with support and care.
With respect to adoption of policies like new series of NICE guidelines for professionals
like nurses, helpers etc. in promoting the well-being of individuals in context to mental health
system. The educational strategies concentrate on giving relevant data and information to cope

with any type of exhaustion that affect the stability of mind. Along with, it gives assistance in
making changes at professional level to bring work-life balance. It also adds on training
programs for nursing practitioners to generate awareness and improve their weaknesses for better
decisions. Along with, people were encouraged in joining focus groups to heal from their trauma
or any situational crisis in quicker modes.
Social Media
It is one of the important channels in recent times to promote mental health and well-
being of individuals. Facebook is the most popular social network site and thus it is used
rigorously to connect with different people to make them understand about various social issues
instantly. This social networking sites have played an integral role in providing information
related to mental health and the improvisation methodologies (Mostafa, Gould‐Williams and
Bottomley, 2015). It has brought mental health literacy on global level. However, there is
reliability issues due to overload of information along with internet frauds and scams that might
put people in dangerous or unpleasant situations.
Importance of Supervision
Supervision is important in nursing public service because of inconsistent work hours that
are required in this domain. It sometimes takes additional toll on nurses health who are working
in this industry (Baines and et.al., 2014). As a full-time nurse, I get strained and feel pressurized
to solve my patients' issues and obstacles. Additionally, supervision helps in making the
observations and overall treatments easier and increases productivity at workplace. It provides a
platform under which the professionals including me would have an opportunity to analyse the
knowledge and skills to work properly. This also highlight the avenues that are based on mutual
respect between patient and professional help for effective outcomes.
Impact of others
Mental health and well-being is important component for any individual. One's positive
mental health is necessary for progressing the life's cyclic order in leaps and bounds.
Furthermore, poor health can be one of the essential factors that leads to negative and inefficient
standards while doing job (Colleagues, employees and mental health in the workplace,2018).
Henceforth, an individual must foster healthy relationships with the inner circle. At workplace,
they must concentrate to cooperate and coordinate with one another for laying the foundation of

loyalty and trust. It would aid in enhancing the communication channel and develop an amiable
environment among the other public service workers. Moreover, they must be cordial to
understand the needs and must help each other out to come out of any critical case with an ease
and comfort.
With respect to my personal evaluation, I believe that family is the backbone of any
individual's growth and my family members are the only constant who always encouraged me to
do better in my professional life by curbing the negativity that surrounds me consistently. Along
with, my colleagues and group of friends made me believe in staying rooted and conquer the
world by steadily moving towards my goals and objectives.

Conclusion
It has been summarized that PERMA Model is useful in effective reviewing and
evaluating the impact of positive mental health on my career as psychiatrist. Furthermore, it
helped in understanding the importance of mental health and well-being of individual by laying a
comprehensive exploration on policies, interventions etc. in context to the nursing as public
service. Additionally, it formed an outline on interventions, role of supervision and safety
policies and strategies in terms of nursing that have accelerated the overall progression of their
contribution in an exponential direction. Lastly, it put insights on the influence of presence of
family and friends in one's life and drawn a personal development plan to enhance own's mental
stability.
