The term vulnerable population refers to the disadvantageous population of the
society and that community of the society must need specific consideration and
care. The vulnerable population includes the people who are uninsured, mentally
ill, immigrants, economically poor. In this discussion the chosen vulnerable
population is mentally ill adults of UK. The problem of mental illness is very
much prompt in UK and as well as it is the major cause of overall disease burden
of world. It is estimated that almost 1 out of 6 people are suffering from mental
illness in this world. In case of UK it is seen that almost, 4-10% of people will
experience mental illness like depression in their whole life (Mental Health
Foundation, 2018). The most common mental health problems are in England are
anxiety and depression.. The problems are scattered in the populations according
to the economical condition of the population.
CHOSEN GROUP
In England the adult population are very much affected by the mental health
problem. The prevalence rate of mental health illness is higher in women than that
of the men and the diagnosis rate of anxiety disorder is double for men while
compared to men. In a study that was conducted among the fathers and mothers, it
was seen that 6% of total father subjects were affected with mental illness.
Whereas 10% of total mother was diagnosed with mental health illness. It is
estimated that, 1 out of 5 women that is almost 19.1% of total population have
unhealthy mental health and in case of male the number is 1 out of 8 that is
12.2% of total population have unhealthy mental condition (Mental Health
Foundation, 2018). A common outcome of mental health distress is suicide. It is
seen that, almost 5821 suicide cases are reported in UK in 2017. Among them,
25% were female whereas,75% were male. In UK there was 18220 mentally ill
people who had committed suicide in between 2003-2013 (Mental Health
Foundation, 2018).. Moreover, it was seen that the rate of prevalence in adults was
in the second position while comparing with the prevalence rate of men and
women individually (Bekar 2018).
SAFEGUARDING INTERVENTIONS ROLE OF THE NURSES
The nurses play a crucial role in terms of providing a quality care to the mentally
ill patients. The main role of the nurses is to develop a idea about the requirements
of the mentally ill patients and they should provide a health care facilities outside
the hospital . In case of giving home care facilities, the nurses are the key factors.
GPs who are trained in internet-based training, can give cognitive behavioral
therapy (Hetrick et al. 2016) to the patients and this will reduce the costing almost
about 639 million euro in a three year period (approx.) The nurses who are
working with a lot of general practices can participate in giving care to the
individuals in their home. This role of nurses will help them in reducing rate of
hospital admission and thereby increasing quality of cares to the vulnerable
populations (Bliss and While 2014).
POLICY AND LEGISLATION
Conclusion
Lastly it can be concluded that, mental health problems in adults is one of the
major issues in UK. Although , there is various government policies and mental
health act , the bad condition can not be overlooked. In order to provide a better
care to the mental health patients, nurses are one of the crucial factors and a
proper care from their end may improve the quality of life of mental health
patients.

INTRODUCTION
In order to give a safeguard to mentally ill people in UK, NHS has structured a
few outlines and that should be followed in order to give proper care to the
mentally ill people. A personalized approach should be maintained. Various
effective practices should be followed instead of just doing ‘investigation and
conclusion’ so that there will be improvement of their health. There should be
close monitoring of on abusive and neglecting attitude in mental health care to the
patients. In addition to this, to reduce the rate of hospitalization home treatment
facility and early intervention techniques are introduced in England. The public
awareness about the disease should be followed in order to give a proper and
working environment to the staffs and professionals of health care. By giving a
home treatment facility to the mental health adults, it was estimated that almost 38
million euro ( Approx.) was saved (Mental Health Foundation, 2018).
To protect the mentally ill patients , there is a low in UK named Mental Health
Act. Under this Act, the mentally ill people of UK will get formal detention in a
hospital in order to provide safety to the other people and also to themselves. In
order to give provide more facilities to the mental health patients, UK government
is spending almost 70-100 billion euro per year that is the 4.5% of gross
domestic product ( GDP) of UK. In a study conducted by the Center for Mental
Health has shown that the yearly cost of England for mental health problems is
almost 105.2 billion euro. In addition to this, more fund is allowed for mental
health research per year and it is estimated that, 115 million euro is spent annually
in mental health research. In 2011, approximately 9.75 euro was spent in
treatment of an adult mental health patient (Mental Health Foundation, 2018).
