INTRODUCTION
I am currently working as a nurse in the hospital. My role is to deal with patients who are facing
mental health (Rosengarten, 2021). I am working in a team in the hospital and I realised that
team working is the best practice. As when you work in a team then it will get easy for an
individual to cope up with the situation as there are other members who will helped me in
various situations. There are doctors and other healthcare workers who have helped me to
understand the work and also how to implement it. I observed that after I joined the hospital and
worked as a nurse my personality has developed. As I have understood that how to handle those
patients who are suffering from mental illness. In my early days I used to assist head nurse. This
has helped me to know that how work has to be done. After I learn the work I have given
equipments which is required to give treatment. In my starting days I was very nervous while
giving injection or medication to the patients.
Thoughts and feelings
I was feeling miserable and I was not able to speak in my group. While working in a group I feel
so nervous. I also feel shy while asking questions. As I have taught in my mind that what others
will think if I will ask any question. After working in a team I personally feels that team working
is good but it is not necessary that when you work in a team then everyone will support or help
you. There are some people who will help you by guiding but also there were such kind of
people also who will not help you. While working in a team I have build communication skills
and also builds confidence (Camilleri, Cope and Murray, 2019). Earlier I was very shy while
speaking in front of group. But slowly I have eliminated my fear of public speaking. And this
also happened because of team working. I have also contributed in a team and helping those
nurses who were overburden with work. I have realised while giving treatment to the patient that
if I want that patient will listen to me and will take his or her medication properly then it is very
important to build good relation with the patients.
Analysis
I like to give recommendations to patients about mental health. It is very important that patients
should have self awareness about mental health. Mental illness is increasing everyday and it is
very important that patient should have knowledge about this and also how they can deal with
mental health problems. As it is said that physical health issues are easy to deal with but mental
health issues cannot dealt very easily. An individual who are going through mental health have to

build confidence. I personally feels that when an individual will gain confidence then he or she
can deal with difficult situations also. So it is very important that patients who are suffering from
mental health issues should have complete knowledge of this and should also know measures so
that they can deal with mental problems. I would also like to recommend to hospital that they
should follow standard legislation properly. As per equality act every patient should get equal
treatment and there should be no discrimination on the basis of age, gender, colour, religion, race
etc. patient who is dealing with mental health issues or any other problem they should get
treatment and when hospital is giving treatment to anyone then should be give equally and fairly.
Treatment to every patient (Foster and et.al., 2019).
The recommendation which is given to patients who are suffering with mental health if they will
understand and implement them in their life then they will forget about mental health issues. As
they will never face such issues in their life span. It contribute in bringing positive lifestyle
changes. I believe that if patient will have knowledge and self awareness of mental health they
there will be very less probability of having such issues. In my initial stage I was assisting head
nurse. But when I understand and learn about how to deal with such patients then it has become
easy for me to deliver services to my patients. I can say that after joining hospital I have learnt a
lot. As in college I was only given theory knowledge but after joining hospital I have learnt its
practical implications.
I found that there is a lot of difference between theory knowledge and practical implications and
I also feel that there are areas in which improvement is required. I have given recommendations
as per my knowledge and observation. I have observed various things in patients and hospital
and I found that there is a gap and if the gap will get filled then it will become easy for patients
and hospital both to deal with the situations. I think that self awareness is the important part and
it must be considered. Hospital should have also organise programs in which they should have
give knowledge about mental health and also what measures should be taken by those people
who are suffering from this problem.
Evaluation
I believe that self development is the most vital thing. Self development is also important
because it will bring better version of an individual. Earlier I was having myth that when an
individual works in a team then work will takes more time to get completed. But after I have
started working in a team in the hospital with various healthcare staff I have realised the

importance of team working (Kaiser and Westers, 2018). Team working will give spirit that
noting is impossible when you work in a team. I think that I should improve my mind set. When
I was given any new task which I have not performed earlier then I became scare that I will able
to accomplish that task or not. I need to change my mindset and also I must always ready to take
opportunities because opportunities will help an individual to grow. I think that I should also
have to develop decision making skills. As I have to provide treatment to patients and sometimes
it require quick decisions in which I hesitate. So I will develop this skills then I will be able to
deliver good quality of services.
Conclusion
From the above report it can be concluded that it is not easy to deal with those patients who are
suffering with mental health. Here self awareness is very important. Hospital can also contribute
by arranging various programs regarding mental health so that awareness can be created. I think
that there are various skills which I have developed and also there are those skills which I
suppose to develop like decision making skills, opportunity taking skill etc.
Action plan
The skills which I will develop will help me in delivering best services to my patients. I can learn
new skills by observing my seniors and also I can join some courses which will be helpful for
developing skills and also help me in personality development (Campbell and et.al., 2020). In the
future I will make sure that I will build good relations with my patients so that it will be easy for
me to give them better treatments. When healthcare workers will have good relations or friendly
relations with their patients then patient will more comfortably tell about their issues which they
are facing.
