Research Title
“To analyse ways to control own mental health of people who are working in mental
health sector. A case study on Nightingale Hospital.”
Introduction
Mental health refers to condition of an individual in which they remain, emotionally,
psychologically and socially well being as it impacts on their ability to think, feel as well as take
action. There are different types of mental patients observed in mental asylums who were
suffering from various psychological problems and these issues depends upon causes of the same
(Richards and Bergin, 2014). However, a person get mentally disturbed due to specific situation
or sudden activity which effects mental peace of an individual in deep manner and leads to a
psychological disorder. This research will focus on ways to control own mental health of people
working in mental health sector and deal with psychological patients on regular basis.
Background of the Research
The working professionals in mental hospitals are required to have strong mind set and
stable emotions while dealing with patient in respect of providing effective medication to them
for their well being. It involves the ways to maintain own mental stability which helps to deal
with mental people because they become violent many times and take injurious steps due which
professionals get injured. This research is based on Nightingale Hospital of London having well
trained psychologists and other medical staff in respect of providing desired facilities. This
research is based on Nightingale Hospital of London having well trained psychologists and other
medical staff in respect of providing appropriate care or medication to patients.. It will includes
the concept of maintaining mental health of workers in mental asylums in order to deal with
psychological patients (Townsend and Morgan, 2017).
Rational of the Research
The purpose of this research is to analyse importance of mental stability of medical
professionals working in mental health sector as it impacts effectively on their performance. it is
necessary for them to remain focussed while dealing with mental patients in order to provide
appropriate treatment or mediation for their well being. The given research is carrying out to

analyse importance of maintaining psychological stability of medical professionals as it effects
their working in mental asylums.

Literature Review
Literature review can be described as to analyse information about specific areas of study
which helps to make appropriate conclusions of research. It involves the criteria to describe,
summarise, evaluate and clarify views in study. However, it involves the concept of mental
stability of medical professionals who are working in mental hospitals in order to deal with
psychological patients in proper manner. They are required to faced their violent behaviour and
necessary to provide medication in appropriate way to make them disease free. It involves ways
to maintain psychological stability of an individual which helps to deal with mental patients in
desired manner (Grob, 2014). In addition to this, medical professionals working in mental
hospitals are required to make themselves psychologically stable because it impacts ion their
performance while they provide desired medication or treatment to patients in terms of make
them mentally well being. Meanwhile, it is very dangerous for professionals to deal with mental

patients as they become violent many times in order harm doctors or themselves according to
their psychological disorder.
Research Methodology
Research methodology includes several effective methods or techniques which can be
used to conduct research project in appropriate manner. It involves various kinds of procedures
to collect information and other methods to analyse desired articles in order to make proper
conclusions. However, it involves research philosophy which is belief of methods used for
gathering, analysed and utilised information in overall research. It is of three types of like
positivism, realism and intrepretivism in which intrepretivism is preferred in given research.
Moreover, quantitative and qualitative approach are used in research projects but qualitative
method is applied here. Random sampling method is used for collection of sample and conduct
proper data analysis through questionnaire.
Limitations of the Study
There are several limitations of study in collecting appropriate information about
particular topic (Halpern, 2014). It include insufficient secondary resources for gathering desired
data and primary method for collecting information is time consuming as well as people are not
able to provide proper opinions about topic. Moreover, it involves several legislations which
create barrier to take accurate information which impacts in conclusions of overall research
project. In addition to this, less time is provided to conduct research which create problems to
conduct proper searching in required area of study and reduce accuracy of results.
Overcoming Limitations of the Study
The issues of gathering inaccurate data can be solved by taking suggestions and from
senior researcher who have already done project in same field. They are efficiently capable to
provide appropriate suggestions and information which render support to make proper
conclusions. However, recommendations for senior researcher will give accurate information
based on their knowledge and experience which facilitate to make accurate results of research
and overcoming from problem of collecting data from primary or secondary resources.
Additionally, the legislation are required to be followed while conducting researches because it
helps to adopt correct way which result in appropriate outcomes of research (Lawrence and et.
al., 2015).

Ethical considerations/issues
The ethical rules or norms are important to be followed while conducting research project
by taking care of several factors such as truthfulness, honesty, maintain confidentiality of
information and apply correct methods to make better results. It involves various kinds of ethical
issues while conducting research including informed consent, beneficence, do not harm, respect
for anonymity & confidentiality and respect for privacy. In addition to this, ethics indicates to
strictly follow laws and rules at the time of carrying out different related activities or procedures
in terms of making accurate results. Meanwhile, researcher should put actual information about
specific areas of study and ensure security of someone's personal data in respect of gaining
appropriate outcomes of research project.

RESEARCH PROJECT
Abstract
The given research will going to analyse about problem of medical professionals working
in mental health care sector which impacts on their mind sets as well as their performance. It is
necessary for them to maintain mental stability and avoid stress because their mental instability
results into threats in their performance. However, the present research will focus on to
determine mental stability of people working in mental asylums like Nightingale hospital.
Moreover, it will also includes several causes which impacts on psychology of professionals and
impact of mental situation of psychological professionals on their performance. There are
various kinds of methods which are used to maintain stability of mind of psychological
professionals is given below.
Chapter 1: Introduction

Mental health refers to emotional, psychological and social well being which mainly
impacts the ability to think, feel and react in daily life. It is necessary to provide mental health
care to individuals who are not psychologically stable. However, different mental patients have
their own psychological disease which depends upon its cause or reasons of the same. Medical
practitioners deal with mental patients by strong mind sets to control their behaviour because
they may become violent many times (Grob, 2014). There are different types of procedures and
techniques which are applied on various mental patients in order to make them mentally stable so
that they become capable to spend their lives comfortably. The present research is based on
Nightingale Hospital which is an independent, accredited acute mental health hospital in Central

London and working from last 25 years. They have highly qualified
consultant psychiatrists, therapists and nurses to conduct appropriate diagnosis and provide
proper treatment to metal patients in order to solve mental problems like eating disorder,
addictions etc. The given research will focus on mental stability of professionals who deals with
psychological patients on daily basis in respect of making them disease free. It is very difficult to
deal with them because they may become violent and attack of doctors many times. However, it
is required to maintain strong mind set to provide medication for mental patients in order to
make them mentally well being. In addition to this, there are various kinds people suffering from
different disorder such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety & panic attacks, eating disorders,
personality disorder and many more severe problems which are very critical to be sort out
properly.

The study based is on Nightingale hospital of London, United Kingdom which is one of
private mental asylum working for psychological patients through their efforts to provide them
comfortable as well as healthy lives. They have well trained psychologist and other medical
professionals how are sufficiently capable to deal with mental people and conduct clinical
practices in more effective as well as efficient manner. Moreover, they pour appropriate efforts
in terms of providing care of mental person and conduct desired practices favourable for their
health.
The given research will focus on mental stability of people working in mental health
sector and methods to maintain their psychological well-being in appropriate manner (Pilgrim,
2017). It is essential for them to maintain their mental health as it impacts on their performance
while they provide treatment to patients. The procedure of rendering required diagnosis or
treatment to mental patients is very difficult task so that it needs strong people to perform their
medication activities for them.
Rational of the research
The main purpose of this study is to analyse impacts of professionals on their performance
if they are not stable mentally. It is necessary to make themselves psychological prepared to deal
with mental people and provide appropriate medication to them for solving their state of
psychological illness. However, there are various kinds of psychological disorders which leads to
critical condition of patient and it becomes severe condition of to handle disturbed person. They

provide proper medication, treatment, conduct counselling therapies and many other methods
which helps to make people healthy. Furthermore, it is necessary for medical professionals to
remain well-being in order to conduct different efficient clinical practices to make achieve
stability in mental situation of individuals (Kolstad and Gjesvik, 2014). In addition to this, it is
important to analyse effective method or techniques which provide support to maintain mental
stability of professionals so that they will perform their roles and duties towards patients in
accurate way for attaining desired outcomes successfully.

working in Nightingale hospital so that they can give their best at the time of conducting clinical
procedures of activities in proper manner to improve mental, situation of suffered person. They
mental condition of medical professional can be analysed through their behaviour on regular
basis and their relation with patients. It also includes to analyse their mental condition by talking
to them which helps to evaluate their actual mental state after dealing with psychological
patients.
At other hand, there are several medical practices through which actual mental situation of
professionals can be analysed in appropriate manner. As per views of Bogenschutz and et. al.,
(2014), it involves to evaluate their level of mental stress, depression, work load, unhealthy
relation with superiors and so on. The mental stress can be generated due to certain problems at
work place such as poor working condition, work overload, role conflict, ambiguity ad minimal
in Nightingale hospital. In addition to this, there several favourable situations which impacts
positively on mental status of professionals including advanced technology, regular seminars for
improving knowledge, innovative equipment for clinical practices etc. which facilitate to provide
accurate medical services to patients to make them psychologically stable.
Causes which impacts of psychology of professionals in mental sector
There are different kinds of factors which impacts on mental situation of medical
professionals working in mental health sector. It involves the criterion of evaluating overall these
elements which impacts negatively on mind set of an individual deal with mental people.
However, it involves work load, extreme violent behaviour of patient, lack of required equipment
or medications to control people and continue working without taking rest. Moreover, these
factors create problems for an individual due which they get stressed and feel irritation from
small issues which reflects their mental condition at particular period of time.

The mental situation of an individual impacts on their performance in very deep manner as

in order to generates better outcomes respectively. However, it will helpful to professionals to
concentrate on their work so that they can render effective treatment to mental patients in order

as well as efficiency of clinical practices to make people psychologically stable. It involves
different types of methods which are helpful to maintain mental peace and stability of
professionals which effects positively in their performance in Nightingale hospital. However, it
provides support to deal with critical patients in respect of making them of providing effective
acre for them so that their condition can be improved which results into better health of them. In
addition to this, various techniques can be used to maintain stable situation such as meditation,

enjoy natural beauty of environment, give some time to yourself and stay motivated in different
situations.
At the other hand, psychological professionals should prefer holidays or rest in specific
period of time to make themselves mentally and physically relaxed which helps to maintain
mental peace of them. According to the opinion of Gilbert (2014), it is necessary to take several
steps by giving yourself around 15 to 20 minutes to conduct certain things by professionals.
Initially, sit with closed eyes with back straight and focus attention towards breathing. Secondly
be aware about breath and redirect focus back if mind starts wandering which provide stability
relaxation as well as peace of mind. Thirdly, they should serials or movies which are horrible
and stay away from aggressive music along with avoiding new as it is around 90 percent
negative anyways.

because such individuals may become extremely violent and may attack on them which is

upon various techniques to maintain psychological health of professionals so that they can
perform in proper manner while providing medication to mental patients for their welfare. It also
focuses on several techniques which are significant in terms of balancing mental peace of people
and impacts positively on their work.
Design/Method
Research design can be described as to analyse effective methods to conduct overall
research in proper manner for making desired conclusion appropriately (Onnela and et. al.,
2014). It can be categorised into several categories such as descriptive, exploratory, experimental
and meta analytic. However, descriptive research involves description about facts & figures
whereas experimental refers to scientific mathematic analysis. Moreover, exploratory include
exploring of concepts or models and present research will be going to prefer descriptive research
design to conduct overall procedure in correct manner to make required results.
Data Collection Method
This can be described about several methods of collecting relevant data to study about
specific topic which is divided into two parts such as primary and secondary data collection,
however, primary method includes to adopt certain techniques for information gathering
including questionnaires, surveys, interviews and many more which are known as primary
resources of data collection. Additionally, secondary data collection involves secondary
resources for gathering relevant information such as articles, books, journals, magazines and so
on by ensuring their reliability or validity to conduct research properly. The given research will
prefer to utilise secondary resources in order to make proper conclusions (Belling and et. al.,
2014).

Sampling technique
The sampling method refers to collect sample of that replicates original population. It
involves required number of respondents facilitating to conduct research properly. It can be
classified into probabilistic and non- probabilistic sampling in which most favourable can be
used for achieving better outcomes. Probabilistic sampling refers to method of random sampling
which will be used in the given research. In addition to this, non- probabilistic sampling includes
criteria of convenience and purposive sampling techniques (Farmakas and et. al., 2014). This
research will be going to prefer random sampling by collecting sample of 30 respondents.
Data presentation & Analysis
The data analysis can be done through qualitative and quantitative means in which is
considered as success factor of research work. It is necessary to adopt correct method which is
effective as well as efficient to draw valid and reliable outcomes in proper way. However,
qualitative method considers application of qualitative means by evaluating quality factors
whereas quantitative research will focus on statically data or figures to make results accurately.
The present research will have based on qualitative method and prefer to utilise thematic analysis
in proper way (Curtis, 2016).
Reliability & validity
The reliability means reality of information and validity refers to effectiveness &
application of concluded results by conducting research in correct manner. It involves to make
proper investigation about gathered information to ensure about two factors such as reliability
and validity so that concluded outcomes of overall research project will be reliable as well as
valid.
Limitations
In context of present research, several limitations are determining about primary and
secondary resources of information. Data collection is no sufficient due to less secondary
resources where s in primary resources, people are able to provide proper views about desired
title. In addition to this, time of conduct overall procedures of research is not enough due to
which impacts on reducing accuracy of desired results (Coverdale and Long, 2015).

Overcoming Limitations
There several issues which are faced but they can overcome by taking proper suggestions
from senior researchers because they correct people to gain appropriate guidance as well as
information about specific topic. They are capable to provide more effective as well as efficient
information and suggestions which facilitate to improve accuracy of results (Scheid And Wright,
2017).
Ethical Considerations
The ethical considerations include to conduct overall research in complete manner by
taking care of ethical values such as honesty, loyalty and truthfulness. It involves to follow
legislation in proper way along with accurately maintaining confidentiality of required
information as well as associated people (Crouch and Alers, 2014).

Interpretation – The above graph indicates that 12 respondents are in favour of patients which
harm themselves as they want to covet emotion pain into physical one to easily tolerate the same.
At the other hand, 10 individuals give views about patient who attack on care takers which may
cause injuries to them and rest of 8 are in favour of patient who get violent to specific situations.

Interpretation – The above graphical representation shows that 12 respondents feel scared while
dealing with mental patients because they may attack care takers and some of them are extremely
violent. At the other hand, rest of 18 people become used to violent behaviour of patients and
feel comfortable to control them along with providing appropriate treatment for their welfare.
Chapter 5: Conclusions & Recommendations
From the above research, it has been analysed that mental health can be described as a
medical situation in which an individual remains emotionally, psychologically and socially well-
being. It includes requirement of mental stability of professionals working in mental health care
sector as they should perform their task with proper concentration to gain better outcomes.
However, it involves cause of their mental instability including excess work load, lack of desired
equipment and extremely violent behaviour of patients. Moreover, they can maintain their peace
of mind by meditation and relaxing it by other means.
The above discussion provides information about importance of mental stability of
professionals working in mental health care to focus on their work. It has been recommended
that organisations make policies of providing relaxation period in terms of leaves, tours and other
events which make medical professionals’ mind free for certain duration of time (Montano and
et. al., 2017). Additionally, it is necessary for professionals to put efforts on their own level by
doing meditation regularly and other activities for maintaining their mental peace respectively.
