1 Define what is meant by mental health and mental ill-health?
1a Mental health:
Mental health is defined as behavioral and cognitive along with the emotional well-being. It is
about people that how they behave, feel and think. Mental health is an effect which can impact
individual daily living physical health and relationship. It also includes psychological and
emotional well-being which can help to determine how individual handle their stress and make
better choices to live quality of life.
1b Mental ill-health:
Mental illness includes mental health disorder which is a wide range of mental health conditions
where individual may get negative health impact and can be affected by different disorders like
thinking behavior and mood. It can also include a disorder depression, change of area, adaptive
behavior and eating disorder. It is a disorder that can be diagnosed by medical health
professionals who can significantly interfere with individual emotional, cognitive and social
abilities.
2 Explain what is meant by the mental health continuum?
Mental health continuum refers to a range of well-being which includes mental illness and
mental health lead to extreme end. This is the one which depends on the circumstances of any
person at any range of time. This can include that individual may find themselves at any type or
point of the continuum on that can lead to shift position along with their situation whether in
improves or deteriorate.
3a Describe factors that may increase the risk of mental ill-health in individuals?
Factors from inside the learning or work environment:
Poor communication along with management practices.
Inadequate safety and health policies.
Inflexible working hours.
Unclear organizational objectives or organizational tasks.
Lower level of support for employees.
3b Factors from outside the learning or work environment:

Any history of mental illness in parents of sibling.
Ongoing chronic medical condition like diabetes.
High consumption of alcohol.
Childhood history of neglect, abuse.
Previous mental illness.
Traumatic experiences like assault on military combat.
Stressful life situations like loved ones that are diverse for financial problems.
4a Explain how physical health can affect mental health. You should consider the
following factors?
Physical activity and being outdoors:
Physical activity can be highly effective and have high potential to enhance individual well-
being. It can help to support mental alertness, positive mood and energy. Through increasing in
walking, it also helped me through participating in regular physical activity that can help to boost
self-esteem and help in reducing anxiety and stress. Being outdoor can help to improve
individual mood and reduce depression and anger that can provide good mental health.
4b Nutrition:
When any individual need to follow diet for being healthy. In this, there is need to take care of
proper nutrition which can be healthy and provide better control in mood fluctuation. It can help
to ability to focus and allow to reduce the risk of anxiety and depression within individual and
improve quality of life along with health.
4c Healthy lifestyle:
Healthy lifestyle is also effective and have a better response on the mental health. It helps to
improve mental well-being through meeting up different people and intake of healthy food and
can affect individual ability to reduce stress and depression and provide better well-being. It also
helps to deal with any situation more wisely and effectively than the person who have lower
healthy lifestyle.
4d Rest/sleep:
Sleeping is effective that help individual to recover from any physical assertion and mental
stress. It also allows to provide better mood and help in decrease the risk of poor mental health.
Rest can allow individual to regain their energy and help to work effectively and easily fight with
any risk of depression or anxiety through their activity and physical activity.

4e Long-term health conditions:
Long-term physical conditions have also high impact on individual mental health. It can also
include social isolation, stigma and discrimination. Low self-esteem which can include lower
mental health and can impact individual lifestyle when individuals feel worried, tired, frustrated
especially during test, pain, treatment. This can longer lead to create mental ill health so
individuals need to take care of this and can focus on their long-term physical condition. This
can enable them to live healthy lifestyles and better mental health.
5a Use examples to describe different types of mental ill health along the
continuum. Describe FIVE different examples of mental ill health?
Example 1:
Anxiety disorder is one of example of mental health in continuum. In this, the individual initially
is the situation of fear and dread. This may include rapid heartbeat and sweating. This situation
gets worse with time and create a mental disorder where it includes panic disorder, social anxiety
disorder and specific phobias.
5b Example 2:
Psychotic disorder is another example of mental health in a continuum which involves distorted
thinking and awareness. Individual may face situation of hallucination where they hear voices
that are not real and some images or sound. They also feel delusions which are false fixed
believes and ill person accept those delusions as true. Schizophrenia is an example of psychotic
disorder where there initially feels the condition of some little affected but with time, this lead to
get severe and after that clinical disorder which create functional impairment.
5c Example 3:
Mood disorder is another example of mental health in continuum and where individuals are
involved in the persistent feeling of happiness, joy, sadness and fluctuation from extreme
happiness to extreme sadness. This may include bipolar disorder, depression or cyclothymic
disorder. Initial stage of individual face normal functioning. Letter on, it looks like it is common
and reversible distress but with time it’s a persistent and creates clinical disorder which create
severe functional impairment.
5d Example 4:
Eating disorder is another mental ill-health in continuum involve attitude of extreme emotions
and behavior that involve food and weight. Bulimia nervosa and Anorexia nervosa and being
eating disorder are referred as eating disorders. Initially people behave like its normal then it gets
reversible distress and leads to severe functional impairment.
