This report discusses the harmful effects of restrictive and defensive practices in mental health and proposes alternate management strategies for the containment of aggression in impatient psychiatric settings. It also highlights the adverse effects of psychological, social, and physical final outcomes which show a higher level of risk related to death chances. The report concludes with strategies such as leadership, using data, preventive measures, workforce development, and debriefing to reduce the practices of restraint and defensive in patient settings.
