Introduction In today’s world it can be seen that both leadership and management skills are required if you want to become leader or the manager. Directing and guiding the team is not the easy task as it requires many things. This report will discuss that how i realised that which skill i am having and which i does not have while conducting the group discussion. Main body Evaluate existing leadership and management capabilities Leadership is the approach under which leaders influence the workforce in such a manner in order to get the work done by them. Management is the administration of the organisation (7 skills for a successful management career., 2020). it is very important to focus in order to develop these process. I had participated in group discussion and i am leading this activity. Through this i came to know that i have leadership skills. All the participants in the group discussion has praised me for my work and my speech. That day i believe that i possess leadership skills and also i have the power to influence others and this is the main skill which every leader should have. If leader is not able to influence their team members to work hard and achieve objective than as per my opinion he or she is not the leader. Along with leadership skill i also have management skills which include communication, mentoring etc. I realised that i addressed the group discussion in efficient manner (Jais and et.al., 2021). I was so confident while speaking. I also mentor other group members in GD. Swot analysis: Through this framework i will describe my strength, weakness, opportunities and threats. Strength: I am the active listener which is the vital leadership skill. I think that when you become leader you must have listening capabilities. As the work of leader is not always giving instruction but also to listen carefully all the problems of its team members. I believe that task will be achieved only if leader is efficient in team handling. I am also flexible and convincing (Sen and Moss, 2017). While in GD i did not force anyone to speak but influence and motivate team members in such a manner that each member willingly participated into it. I think i have problem solving and decision making skills and these are the management skill. I solved every problem whether big or small efficiently which came in the 1

way. I did not panic and think calmly and came with a solution. I also possess decision making skill because i take decisions timely and efficiently. I do not delay in taking decision. As there is not use of such decisions when taken once the time is gone. Decision should be taken by keeping in mind that it should be in favour of the team. Weakness: I realised that there are many skills in terms of management and leadership which i does not have. Like forward planning and strategic thinking. As it is the duty of the leader to think about future. So that along with present future can also be managed. I realised in GD that i had made planning for present only and completely ignored future. Next time when i will plan activity i will think for future also because future planning is very helpful for the future activities. Strategic thinking require innovation, i did not innovate much in GD. I realised that in the future i have to bring innovative ideas in the future in order to make the team more productive. I also not have the skill to manage time which is the leadership skill. Time management is the important skill because on it the success and failure of the task is dependent. I realised that i does not allot time to every activity which takes place in GD (Grimard and Pellerin, 2018). Due to this i also ran out of time. So i decided that from next time i will allot time to every activity and also keep some time in spare so that in the emergency i can use that time. Opportunities: While doing group discussion i realised that now i have the opportunity to learn and develop those skills which are not present into me. So that next time when i plan such activity i did not lack in any thing. I also understand the importance of leadership and management skills. Without these two skills no leader can become successfully handle its team. I will work on my weakness and make sure that in the future will convert my weakness into my strength. Threat: I believe that biggest threat is those skills which are hard to develop but plays vital role in the life of leaders. I cannot easily delegate the work. I always have fear that delegation will disturb the work because i think that if i will do all the work than i will attain perfection. But that is not true as alone i cannot do all the work. this skill is very necessary to be built. As lack of this skill can also cost to me (Peach, 2017). I should have remove this fear and start delegating work so that i could have time to manage other things. 2
Conclusion Through this report it can be concluded that leadership and management skills both are important for leaders. As leaders influence their team members so he or she must have required skills. In the report i mentioned my strength in terms of skills which i have and how that helped me to achieve goals. I also mentioned the weakness which include those skills which i does not have. I will try my best to build those skills in which i am lacking. This is the opportunity as i realised those skills which i do not have so i will hard to establish them. This report has also evaluated threat which i have and on which i will be working in the future. 3
