INTRODUCTIONHuman resource management has been emerged out as the crucial factor in each andevery business due to rising complexities in the working environment. The need of humancapital as business owners, employees and consumers is worth noting (Bennett and Ho, 2014).Seeking help from the efforts of the humans, policies, strategies as well as procedures are beingdeveloped effectively. Concerning this, the main aim of the research is to evaluate the humanresource management of British Airways. As an Assistant human resource manager of BritishAirways, the main function is to set up all activities in relation with the human resource of thefirm. The company was established in the year 1974 and is one of the successful airlineindustries around the world. From some periods, British Airways has recognized the fact thatthere is a need of alternation in their strategies. In this regards, they have taken intoconsideration, customer service planning to accomplish the desired aims and objectives (BritishAirways, 2007).Furthermore, the human resource management team of the organization is engaged inoffering training to the employees and several other processes of recruitment as well as selection.Consequently, as an assistant manager the analytical report will be developed so as to providehelp to the firm to gain competitive edge. Moreover, the report will also analyze the usefulnessof varied practices related to human resource management in increasing the level of revenue andoutput. Other than this, significance of employee relation will be assessed and scrutiny of theemployment legislations that influence the decision making of HRM of British Airways will beconducted.1
TASK – 1P1Main purpose and the functions of HRMThe main focus of human resource management is to reap out best from the employeesand thus, they develop, plan and manage the workers so as to achieve the best outcome for theorganization. The main concern of HRM is to utilize the resources within the firm. With the helpof human resource management, British Airways makes efforts in decreasing the gap amid theemployer and employee. It also helps in building relationship with each other. Thus, the mainpurpose of human resource management is being defined as follows:Helps in enriching the employees by arranging training programsSupports in creating healthy relations amid the employees (Chan and Kuok, 2012)Increasing the efficacy of the human asset in relation with the productivity andperformanceAnd finally, planning about the human asset of the firmIt is quite essential for the British Airways to have effective Human resourcemanagement in place, as it is related with the travel and tourism industry. Further, it becomesnecessary for the company to make improvement in the skills, competencies as well as efficiencyof the workers. This pertains to the fact that through this they can achieve competitive advantagein the airline market. Thus, the main function of British Airways that can provide talent skillsappropriate for fulfilling the objectives of the firm is described underneath:Human resource planning– Management of human capital can be done by properplanning. The human resource manager of the British Airways identifies the need of manpower through human resource planning function (Hoque, 2013). The firm requiresnumerous staff for different levels and therefore, HR planning helps in meeting out suchdemand.Recruitment and selection– Talking in reference with the Airline industry, recruitment aswell as selection is considered as an integral part. British Airways carried out recruitmentand selection under the three level processes. The very first level is screening of theapplication form than interviewing and personal discussion and lastly, taking variedaptitude tests. Thus, the major role of performed by the HR department.2
