A review of the substrates used in microbial fuel cells (MFCs) for
sustainable energy production
This journal paper is centered on the microbial fuel cells (MFC) which were
written by Deepak pant and other writers in the year 2010. The major aim
of the research is to appraisal the substrates utilized in MFC and evaluate
the concept behind microbial cells (Pant, et al., 2010).
The objective of this article is to analyze the importance of MFC in relation
to sustainable energy production. In this paper, the researchers focused on
the substrates of microbial fuel cells used for improving the construction of
sustainable energy.
After reviewing the selected paper it is observed that the researchers
adopted a qualitative process for conducting the research. There are
numerous methodologies involved by the writers such as the research
approach (inductive), secondary data collection method, search strategy,
and descriptive content analysis. It is argued that the inductive approach
helped to develop depth examination about microbial fuel cells and
qualitative design reduced gaps in the research and managed the flow of
information. For obtaining secondary data the researchers included
numerous sources such as journal papers, peer-reviewed articles, and
online websites and so on. The collected data and facts were analyzed using
the descriptive content analysis method. Therefore, it is stated that the
chosen papers helped the researchers to achieve the aims of the research
and obtained reliable outcomes.
This paper shows that microbial production of electricity is a significant
form of bioenergy as it offers the possibility of electric current. It is found
that the substrates used in the MFC mainly involve numerous types of

wastewaters, artificial and biomass. This paper highlighted the importance
of MFC in the enhancement of sustainable energy.
From this paper, it can be concluded that sub-elements used in the MFC
have grown in complexity and power. The integration of MFC is mainly the
best option that can be used as a feed for the other cell and lead the
production of sustainable energy effectively. This journal paper reviewed
the numerous substrates that have been explored in MFC along with their
performance and limitations. This proposed research provided depth
examination in the relation of microbial fuel cells and evaluated the findings
of previous papers including strengths and weaknesses.
Landfill leachate treatment with microbial fuel cells; scale-up
through a plurality
This journal article was written by Antonia and other researchers in the
year 2009. The title of this paper is “Landfill leachate treatment with
microbial fuel cells; scale-up through plurality” that provided information
about microbial fuel cells. The key aim of this research is to understand the
concept behind landfill leachate treatment recycled in the MFC (Gálvez,
Greenman, and Ieropoulos, 2009).
The objective of this paper is to find the key aspects of microbial fuel cells
and review microbial fuel cells fuidically along with the landfill leachate
treatment. The researchers argued that a MFC is a kind of scheme which is
capable of convert biochemical energy into electric energy using activities
of microorganisms.
It is observed that the researchers adopted various research methods for
completing the research such as experimental process, analytical methods,
landfill leachate, deductive approach, primary and secondary data gathering
methods and so on. The adopted methods provided complete information in
the relation of MFC and helped the researchers to achieve the objectives of
