About This Document

ECE 6351 - This assignment covers all of the information you need to know about Microwave Engineering. The frequency of 74 GHz has been chosen for Microwave Link Design. In general, the frequency bands 6,7 and 8 GHz are used for long hop length intercity paths, while 15,18 and 23 GHz are primarily used for short hop length last-mile links. Atmospheric absorption the signals will be absorbed mostly by oxygen and water vapor. The amount of water vapor and oxygen in the atmosphere decreases as altitude rises.

1.IntroductionTwo points will be selected from the google map in such a way that the two points will beat least 100 kilo meters apart from each other. A terrestrial microwave radio communication linkthat connects these two points will be designed. While designing radio communication link, appropriate computations of losses and gains in the signal path will be made. Whether receiverwill be receiving enough power or not will be investigated. The transmitter power and receiverpower calculations will be made. Transmission line losses and antenna gain will be calculated.A) Problem Statement While designing a terrestrial microwave radio communication link that connects these two pointsthat are 100 kilo meters apart, investigate whether the receiver will be receiving enough power ornot.B) Objectives To design a terrestrial microwave radio communication link that connects these twopoints that are 100 kilo meters apartTo do appropriate computations of losses and gains in the signal pathTo find out the power specifications of transmitter and receiverTo find out transmission line losses and antenna gain2.Site and Path Considerations A) Path considerations As the initial step, the path has to be considered. Then it is necessary to link the planaccordingly (Das & Das, 2009). It has to be analyzed whether the path is the point-to-multipointor it is point-to-point. Then clearly, LOS has to be verified. Then the obstacles must be clearedand the lower level of the signal will appear when the location is blocked. It is much possible forgetting a link when the system has good signal range. It is not that much sure that, the line ofsight has clear view. So that the RF path has to be analyzed. There are many software which hasthe information about the terrain in a default manner. This helps in making a profile path from2

the view of longitude and latitude. If the link does not work out because of the obstruction interrace, then the programs shows only few links (Das, 2015).Points chosen are sjk jemaluang and tuas shouth ave that are having the inter-distance of 111.76km. Google map("Google Maps", 2017) is showing the two points and their inter distance. The Latitude, Longitude and sea level of the selected locations are given below1.3089999, 103.6268759, 9m for Tuas south avenue3
