2MIND BODY PROBLEMThe Mind Body ProblemThe mind body problem is the age-old topic of discussion of philosophy, which takesthe mind and body of the human form as two different entities and evaluates the effect thatthe mind or the consciousness has on the physical form, which is the body. The question canbe traced back to Descartes who initially questioned the dual identities of the mind and thebody embodied in the human form quoting (Bunge 2014). The mind and body are taken asthe two different forms existing in two different realms or the planes of reality but areinterdependent. This gave the idea of the Dualism of the mind and bodies and there arevarious arguments stating how the mind and the emotions control the physical effects on thebody. There are various arguments in favor of dualism of the mind and the body whichinclude; the consciousness of the mind after death, the effect of mental issues on the physicalbody. Dualism argues that the mind and body exist in two different forms but areinterdependent on each other (Phillips, Beretta and Whitaker 2014). The physical act as thestimuli for the mental and mental is the controller for the physical. The concept of the twoforms existing simultaneously in the same body giving the humans the problems in theidentity and identifying their perspective according to the worldThe other theory of the mind body problem is the Monism according to which themind and body are not two different entities but a single entity between the spiritual and thephysical realm (Radhakrishnan and Moore 2014). Monism argues that the physical form isthe embodiment of the spiritual existence and they are not two but the same entity. Thephysical form is just the expressive form for the spiritual self.
