Introduction
In order to accomplish the goals and results that is within a schedule that is defined
and a budget that a project manager uses in the project. A methodology is also a model that
the managers of certain projects employ for the planning, design, and implementation of the
project [1]. There are various types of methodologies of project management that can be used
to benefit various projects. The most important and common methodology is the agile
methodology. There are also various methodologies other than agile.
The report deals with the support and the advantages that are provided by the methods
of management of projects to the project managers for managing the projects of information
technology and information systems. The report deals with the role of methodologies of
project management in various businesses and contexts of projects. This report also focuses
on the benefits of methodologies of project management and examines the methodologies in
the context of their operations [12]. Improving the performance of information technology
projects and the information system is the top priority of majority of the company.
Role of methodologies of project management
The methodologies of project management help in the successful completion of a
project that is related to information technology or information systems. There are various
types of methodologies such as agile, prince2, six sigma and many more [2]. The
methodologies of project management play a very significant role in the completion of a
project successfully. Different methodologies have different strategies that help to solve the
issues that arise during the delivery of the project. Once the executives of a company
recognize that management of project is necessary, the changes in the organization occur
quickly. Choosing a project management that is singular and unified is an approach that is
effective and helps to consolidate the management of project efforts that is prior in an

organization. Upon seeing from this perspective, the methodologies not only plays an
essential role in securing the presence of a language that is common and a procedure that is
common, that are the fundamentals of management of projects [3]. It also helps to give
studies that are benchmarking and may produce feedback that are continuous for the
company. The article deals with the role of methodologies of project management in the
context of various businesses.
Advantages of methodologies of project management
There are various types of methodologies of management of projects that are used in
the projects of information systems and information technology. The mathods of project
management are agile, prince2, waterfall, Scrum, six sigma and many more that are used for
the successful completion of a project [5]. The methodologies of project management play a
very important role in a project. The methodologies of management of project that as used
previously evolved from projects that were not very complex and the projects were more
controlled. The projects in the present day are more complex and have more risk. The
methodologies of the project management enable the organization to tackle these types of
projects in a manner that is integrated for the risk that will arise. The methodologies provides
advantages at the tactical, strategic and at the operational level of the organization [6].
Tactical benefit
At this level, the methodologies of project management allow the managers that work
offsite to have confidence in the status assessment validity. It makes sure that the problem is
recognized earlier and the problem is corrected. The problems can be technical or related to
the requirements of the business.
Strategic benefit

At this level, the methodology of project management provides confidence to the
partners, customers and the management officials so that the organization can manage the
projects that are large and after that deliver the projects with profits. This methodology
enables the organization to examine the risks in a realist way and the difficulties that projects
that are large has. The strategies are required to lessen and overcome the risks in the
organization
Operational benefit
At the level of operation, the methodologies are an important mean by which the
company authorize the team of the project to do the thing that is right and in a right way. This
is very important to enable the organization to deliver the solutions related to the effective of
costs and compressed schedule.
Information system/information technology project management
Information technology management of projects is the procedure of managing the
organization, plan and the accountability to accomplish the goals that are related to
information technology [6]. The scope of information technology projects is very large as IT
spans across most of an enterprise. The project managers of IT deal with the challenges of
integrations that are interdependent.
The IT management of project consists of five stages of management of project, but
an important difference for project management of IT is how the lifecycle of the project is
managed [7]. The most common methodology that is used is the waterfall methodology. This
process involves a linear procedure that is predictive. Another method that can be used is the
iterative method that uses an approach that is incremental. The lifecycle of an information
technology management of project includes hardware, software, wireless and wired access,
the remote and the virtual assets, storage facilities and centres of data and the networks.

The main responsibility of an IT project manager is to set the goals, to motivate and
communicate with the members of the team and the shareholders, to identify the resources for
the tasks, sequencing the tasks and many more [8]. The responsibilities of a project manager
are:
 Overall management and planning of the project
 Accomplishing and promoting the support for the project
 To minimize the works those are duplicate.
 Maintaining of budgets and controlling the costs.
 Make sure about the capability with the technology that is existing
 Utilize the skills of the team members.
There are several challenges that are faced by the Information technology project managers.
The challenges are:
 Making assumptions that seem to be multiple when various softwares are integrated to the
system that is existing.
 The expectations those are unclear from the stakeholders, business and the end-users.
 The changing of the technologies that leads to the upgradation of the mid-project and can
affect the timelines.
 The rework work that is associated and the offices that are geographically diverse.
Methodologies mentioned in the article
The methodologies that are mentioned in the article are the agile methodology,
Prince2 and the other two types that are known as method A and B. The discussions of the
above methodologies are mentioned below:
1. Agile: Agile is a software development focussed methodology of project management. It
has emerged due to the failure of the waterfall model for managing the projects that are

complex. This can be used in the information technology management of project [9]. The
idea of agile has been used in the industry related to software for quite some time. The
advantages of the agile methodology of the project include freedom and flexibility and
the other one is lower risk.
2. PRINCE2: PRINCE2 (Projects IN Controlled Environment) has a suite of methods that
are driven by process and approaches that are oriented on documentation allow driving
different projects in the private sector [11]. It was originally used for the management of
IT/IS projects. An important application PRINCE2 is associated by finding a level of
tailoring that is appropriate. It is the project management official project management of
the UK government. The PRINCE2 is based on 7 processes, 7 principles and 7 themes.
The principles of PRINCE2 are:
 Focus on the products
 Learning from the experience
 Manage by steps
 The roles and the responsibilities that is defined.
Method B: The method B was used in the information technology and projects of system
division for the delivery and management of projects. It was derived from a methodology of
product delivery. The must contained too much focus on the external clients. It did not pay
any attention to the customers that are internal and their requirements to meet business and
technical needs of the departments in the company.
Method B: Method A is a methodology that is company-wide that is developed and designed
over a couple of years thereby outlining the important processes that is related to the aspects
of business that is fundamental. Methods A is very much influenced by the Standards of
British and it are heavy on the assurance and quality management. Over several years, this
methodology was revised continuously and some important key points were added to the

methodology. This method can also be used in the IT/IS project managements but the method
is old and new methods that are better than this are present.
The effect of project management methodologies
The project management methodologies are very essential for a project that is related
to the Information technology and information systems. It has a significant role to play in the
successful completion of a project. There are various types of project management methods.
Some of the project management methodologies are agile, scrum, PRINCE2 and many more
[10]. It has the lifecycle of a project. These days the project management methodologies are
quite advanced as they are used for projects that are complex and risks are more. There are
four various types of methodologies that are mentioned in the project. They are agile,
PRINCE2, Method A and B. Among these four agile and PRINCE2 are quite advanced and
are used in the projects of IT/IS. The other were back dated and old and cannot be used in the
projects in the present days. These project management methods are very effective for the
lifecycle and the completion of a project.
Conclusion
The report deals with the effectiveness of the methods of project management that are
used nowadays. The report focuses on the project management methodologies that are used in
present projects. This report has a detailed discussion about the roles of the project
management methodologies. The report also focuses on the benefits of management of
projects with context to the organizations. The report discusses about the methodologies that
are discussed on the article. Last but not the least, the report concludes with the how the
methods of project management are effective.
