Impact of industrialization on the construction sector
Ahmed wa Hammad,Hanna Grybowska, Monty sutrisna (2019). A novel mathematical optimisation model
for the scheduling of activities in modular construction factories. Construction management and economics ,
page 1-18,
In this book, the idea of industrialization in the construction sector is introduced with the concept of modular
construction. The number of reports has given on this mode of construction that it is advantageous as
compared to on-site construction. When it is contrasted with conventional construction, the impact is
reduced time, costly and reduced environmental impact. Its operations also take places in a manner that is
sequential and linear hence the resources allocated are minimal. Industrialization in the construction sector
involves the application of production and technological processes from the sector of manufacturing to the
sector of construction so as reduce time, improve quality cost and the safety of construction.
Antti peltokorki( 2017)c categorising modularization strategies to achieve various objectives of building
investments. Construction management and economics. Volume 36
This article also introduces the concept of modularization in the construction industry. Various articles have
been introduced and examined so as to identify and classify the strategies in construction. The research
shows that modularization is the best approach to develop an innovative design solution, quality project,
reduced cost and improved schedule performance. The approach also improves and enables flexibility in the
building usage and maintenance although the objectives depend on the project. This idea is applied in
positioning and developing the developers, owners, contractors and module suppliers in the supply chain.
Edward Goh, martin loosemore (2017) the impact of industrialization on construction subcontractors .
construction management and economics 35:5 pages 288-304.
The author emphasises the need for industrialization to subcontractors order to improve the entire sector of
construction. When there is industrialization in the sub constructor sector, the changes that will be
experienced will have a great impact on the industry. The subcontractor's resources bring about potential
opportunities so as to achieve a competitive advantage. The quality of construction has been improved, the
cost of construction has been reduced and the resources is also minimised through the cost-effective means
