In the article, the author is of the view that reality has often been linked to photographs
and images. In this context, she draws reference from the imagery provided by Plato in terms of
his cave allegory. According to Plato, people are chained in a cave and the only thing which is
shown to them is in the form of shadows. They perceive this to be the reality as they do not any
idea of the outside world. The shadows are shown by those in power and they do this in order to
gain the trust of the innocent and ignorant people. However, if the same chained people manage
to escape the cave, they might be able to see the reality. The initial light of the sun may blind
them as they have spent their entire life in a darkened cave. However, if they manage to adjust
their orientation, then they will be able to understand real freedom. Sontag (2001) is of the same
view. Photographs only represent the reality, they are not the exact resemblance of it.
The strength of this article is that the author understand the vague distinction between the
reality and the photographs as is shown to the people. However, she fails to draw a conclusion as
did Plato in his allegory of the cave. She merely stated what was going wrong in the society. The
gap observed in this article is that it fails to draw a distinct relation between photography and
copyright laws and regulations. It simply talks about the differences between reality and
