Discussion 2a: If we believe that employees are more attracted to ethical organizations,
are moral motives as powerful as economic ones in people's' decision making? Why or
why not?
Moral motives are crucial in terms of gaining an insight into the right and the wrong
actions. This insight shapes the judgment in case of the employees, which is vital for
contributing into the decision-making process. According to the arguments of Garrigan,
Adlam and Langdon, (2018), morality in the judgments motivate the employees, resulting in
making appropriate decisions regarding effective maintenance of the workplace ethics.
Consideration of the social and contextual factors at the time of decision-making reflects the
consideration of cultures, which conglomerate for broadening the perspectives of the people.
Recently I was involved in a decision-making in my company, where emphasis was laid on
facts regarding the approaches towards decision-making.
Mention can be made of the decision-making in Walmart, which is aimed at gathering
information and deliberations. However, consultation with the organizational groups and
participants helps in the formation of different perspectives. On the contrary, Smuts, (2009)
thinks that most of the decisions involve emotional influences, which relates with the
workplace culture. On the other hand, experience is an agent for Apple in terms of exposing
moralistic approach towards decision-making. Consciousness towards the organizational
values supports in maintaining the workplace ethics. Incorporation of Ethical Code of
Conduct within the business operations is productive and far more economical. This is
because it seems productive for preserving the individual sentiments of the people.
Conducting revisions in the standards and codes of ethical conduct enhances the authority of
the people towards morality within the decision-making skills and abilities (Dane &
Sonenshein, 2015).
