Academic essay 1
Motivating and leading
From the module motivation and leading, the key idea that the author has attempted to
discuss is identify and assess the complexity involve in international business and
management of the same through cross cultural study. Motivation and leadership could
contrast in home and host country and specifically in case where more than one culture is
being involve. Motivation and leadership are considered and studied as the two key factors
that could be implemented and applied to the company while going international or working
with cross cultural team. The module also provides the leadership style that would be more
appropriate when it comes to lead cross cultural teams. The information that found to be
useful and could be implemented is the motivational study that reflects rewarding and
incentive system. Other than this the perception of the author towards a good leaders that
include behaviour and traits could varied from nation to nation. For instance in case of joint
venture, the complexity in the situation could vary where the suggestion from the author
included working together for the leaders of two organisation coming together and must
address the problems of cross culture together. The discussion that is found to be implacable
to the company and one of the major learning is studying contingency theory of leadership in
order to consider the changing dynamics in the environment and international workplace. The
cultural difference reflected the attitude and behaviour that is essential to manage people
from various cultures. Thus, this includes the key learning from the reading and author’s
shared thoughts (Green et al., 2017).

Academic essay 2
Recruitment method may vary and is one of the major HR decision while hiring management
team in international business. Thus, hiring locally could vary from in house hiring, where
local hiring may include various pros and cons considering the suitability. For instance, some
of the key advantages of hiring locally that are knowledge of business practice and local
culture. It can be said if the personnel is from the local region then he or she must be aware
about the local region and could be able to more connect to the client base. Other than this
another advantage is language fluency, which could be helpful to the company in customer
relationship management and communication. Moreover, considering the cost factor, this
hiring could be less expensive as the personnel would be working in their own nation instead
of expertise for foreign nation. However the key cons include limited job skills, since the
personnel would be form the same culture the diversity and the skills could be limited. Other
than these local personnel may not be able to adapt the company’s values at first stance
(Craig & Douglas, 2015).
On the contrary, hiring of corporate manager that is in house hiring could reflect pros like
better understanding of company practices and values as the person has already been working
with company by the time, and may have the experience with working and fulfilling same
company’s value. Another major advantage is quality over quantity, this reflects more skilled
hiring, and talented employees that has been reviewed previously and may reflect ensured
success in the specific field. However, some of the cons when compared to local hiring is
expensive method. The key expenditure is high paid personnel as they would be living in
foreign nation, which make the base pay for the individual higher, other than this expense of
cross cultural training would also be included. Another disadvantage is legal risk as the job
opportunity is not given in host nation (Bottani & Galli, 2017).
