Motivation: Reinforcement Theory
Motivation plays an essential role in the organisation. It means the desires, needs,
drives or wants within any individual. Motivation plays an essential role in the life of a
person. Reinforcement theory of the motivation is the best theory that explains the behaviour.
I can related the positive and negative reinforcement with my personal life example also. I
have done the best work during my academics that was liked by every individual (Peters,
2015). Due to my best performance, I have received several positive appreciations. Because
of that positive appreciation, I motivated and always tried to work hard. As compare to this,
negative reinforcement states that if any person is performing the job with higher standard, he
or she might not be monitored closely anymore. It is also stated as the reward for doing the
job effectively. The next type of reinforcement is the positive punishment. I still remember
when I used to scold by my teachers for spending too much time on doing gossips with my
colleagues. It has helped me in several positive ways. As compare this, I have also felt the
negative punishment when my desk was removed from my colleague (Smith & Cyders, 2016).
It has decreased my morale because I was not able to talk with my colleague. In addition to
this, I have also come across extinction. For example- when supervisor instructs any of the
co-worker to ignore all those things that are not related to the work. It has also me in several
ways to bring out the productivity. In this way, it can be stated that a person can be motivated
by several ways. It sometimes depend on the person how he or she take the particular
situation (Richter, Raban & Rafaeli, 2015).
