COMPOSITE MATERIALS
Introduction
Composite materials are materials that contains two or more materials and influence the
improvement of both its chemical and physical properties. Composites materials are very
essential in our day to day running of our lives as fields such as architectural and design,
construction and building, sporting, Boating, aircraft and well as Ballistic Protection depend on
theses composite materials in order to run hence making them to be key instruments for the their
industries. Research and innovations that have been undertaken on the composites over the years
through science and technology has influenced on the improvement of composites on their
properties and functions (Akasaka, Osuka, Fukuzumi, Kandori, & Aso, 2016).
Examples of composite materials
Composite materials are often categorized through the identification and determination of
strength and durability of the material as well as the reinforcement their use. The categories
includes:

Mud bricks can be used for building and construction when it’s combined with small rocks, it
has always and continues to be essential materials for construction since the ancient years to
date. It was first discovered by the ancient Egyptians. Main use of mud bricks in construction
industries as well a modelling. (Bowden, 2016).
Concrete
There are two types of concrete namely translucent and Absorbent concrete. Translucent
concrete is called original concrete .A paste of small rocks and cement is made for make it to be
more reinforced. Concrete can be used in construction and building purposes.
Wood and engineered bamboo
Wood and bamboo are among the first invented composite materials, they were used and still
being used in the construction of huts .Bamboo woods is tied using glue and strips for
construction purposes (Corten, 2016). The can also be used for building boats
Fiberglass
This is a combination of plastic and fibers of glasses. It’s used in construction of house parts
such as window frames and doors but it’s mainly used essential in the construction of windows.
It can also be used in sporting activities.

Kevlar
Because of physical and chemical properties of Kevlar, it has extreme ductile strength that is
used in the boat construction, shoe and cloth production and in aircrafts.
Pykrete
This is the combination of wood and ice.It has a reinforced strength. It can be used for sporting
purposes (Chung, 2016).
Composite Honeycomb
It’s a concrete that possess designs of honeycomb. It possess compressive power. It’s mainly
used in construction and design.
