The current curriculum is inclusive and provides and provides a representation of various
cultures. The current curriculum is able to provide the needs of various communities and enables
them to participate freely. There is an equal representation of various ethnic diversity within the
curriculum as well. Multicultural diversity is one of the most important part of the educational
aspect. The presence of different diversity ensures there is understanding among the various
cultural perspectives and ideologies (Moore, 2018). This exposure is an essential part of
educational experience and learning. Students who are often from the minority section of culture
feel isolated and easily misunderstood when other students have no idea about their culture and
other cultural practices associated with the culture. Therefore it is essential for the exposure and
confluence of various cultures to come together and learn from each other to eliminate the doubts
that may arise. The current curriculum is inclusive and diverse which is encouraging of various
cultures which is positive.
Plan to adapt the curriculum to include all students and families
Understanding and awareness is most important part of the multicultural curriculum.
Therefore when planning a multicultural diversity within an educational institution, a complete
participation of the students and their families is most important. The complete participation of
both students and their families is important because families play an important role in shaping
the ideologies of the student (Moore, 2018). The misconception, misunderstanding and
stereotype that is perceived is generally passed on to the family members. While planning a
multicultural diverse curriculum should include the student and their families a sit allows for
mutual understanding and good practice. Many cultural practices is often misunderstood for the
existing stereotypes among cultures such as the use of hijab and its value among the Muslims

(Jackson, 2018). Misconceptions may lead to isolation, harassment and even violence. There
needs to be programs that involves the families if the students together such as a festival or
cultural projects that requires the meeting of the various parents from different cultures. There
can planning of social gatherings or lunches that involves the parents and the families of students
to come together and interact. Cross cultural communication is an essential part of the planning
structure (Kumagai, 1994).
Discussion related to the impact of culture and language
There is a very huge impact of the culture and language within the framework of
education. Education system needs to address the cultural setting within the classroom
effectively especially in a multicultural setting. Teachers and the members of the staff need to be
culturally competent to teach the students and impart the instructions better. It is often a debated
topic on the need to have a cultural aspect and language impact on the people. Culture and
language is an intrinsic part of the education. The ability of a student to communicate
successfully in their second language depends largely on the non-ethnocentrism of the learner. A
student needs to develop certain level of understanding and respect towards the culture and
tradition towards the language they are studying (Kumagai, 1994). This helps to understand the
culture of the language they are studying this helps them gain understanding towards the foreign
language they are learning. Students hail from different regions families with their personal
customs and cultural practices which needs to be understood and practiced in order to impart
education better. There are certain habits and customs that a class may adopt to show cultural
competence however that does not explain reason behind it which gives rise to stereotypes.
Language and cultural are both big part of the heterogeneity within a classroom setting however
one must be aware the reason behind such practices which will encourage learning. Moreover,

there must be clear distinction between the native and nonnative speakers of the language
(Kumagai, 1994).
What pitfalls will you consciously try to avoid?
One of main pitfalls that should be avoided is the generalization and promotion of
stereotypes. The non-native speakers should be respected and given the opportunity to develop
understanding of the language and culture. Sometimes the non-native speakers feel so conscious
of making a mistake that they start to isolate themselves or they may start to suppress their
cultural influence. This is one of the pitfalls that I would like to avoid and create a healthy
learning experience for the students. A very common aspect is conforming to the cultural
stereotypes within a classroom and enforcing it on the students. As English is a generally spoken
and widely accepted form of language there is often a cultural superiority that is projected by the
native speakers. That should never be the case as it undermines the respect and dignity of the
people who do not speak the language well. There is an existence of social tension among certain
communities it is essential to remove the issues that can exists within the various communities
within the classroom and they are able to express their cultural values within the classroom
setting.
What are your big ideas or enduring understandings?
The major challenge that requires enduring understanding is the proper understanding of
various cultural implication and the assumptions and perspective of the students regarding the
various cultures. The major problem that can be identified is the perceived notion that is created
by the media that often has a negative influence on the students. The perception immediately
narrows down to a negative factor that has a very negative impact on that particular community.

To illustrate, the common perception of anyone practicing Islam is associated with terrorism,
women violence, social regression and other negative attributes. The big idea is to ensure that
this perception can be prevented by exposing the audience with positive messages about the
culture. Educating them about the practice and teaching mutual respect and understanding among
the masses (Terman, 2017). Engaging them in critical thinking and teaching them good practice
that can improve cultural perspective.
How will you develop and assess multicultural curriculum in your area of expertise?
Through communication and interaction one can understand and develop the
multicultural expertise. Firstly, it is important to assess the existing knowledge about a certain
communities and their existing perception of the people and their community. Their treatment of
the certain communities and the issues they have in the interaction with such communities.
Therefore I will ensure there is participation and interaction among the students from all the
communities and culture. Developing cultural events and participation can help and encouraging
the cultural learning among the various groups.
How will this adaptation improve achievement?
Determining the existing issues within the student group and their existing perception can
help to understand the problems and ideas that is persistent within the students. Furthermore,
when the issues and misconception is determined plan can be developed to address the issue
(Alismail, 2016). One of the general issues that is most evident is the lack of understanding and
awareness among the different cultures therefore increased participation can help to eradicate
this issue. When students will interact more the misconceptions will gradually decrease.
