Discussion
Brazil is the cultural hub where various cultural and ethnic groups reside in a peaceful
manner. Due to the colonial past and lineage, Brazil is chiefly dominated by the ethnic culture of
the Portuguese. Brazil is dominated by the Portuguese language and cultural inclinations. Apart
from this, the Brazilian community also consists of the ethnic group of the European-African as
well as Asian Brazilians (Andrade et al., 2019).
The historical details project that ethnic groups were subjects of maltreatment and
stereotyping. Due to the rampant slave trade, the Blacks were viewed as inferior. A hotel in Rio
de Janeiro had refused to assimilate an African. This was a major turning point because anti-

had helped them in shattering the prejudices.
The colored Brazilians were often subjected to maltreatment and prejudices amidst the
white Brazilians. Negative stereotyping of Blacks was prevalent for a very long period. Further,
the Brazilian diaspora also included the idea of social distancing. The Whites preferred to
maintain only basic relations with the Blacks without the scope of marriage between the two
races. Racial and social stereotyping was prevalent in a rampant manner. These beliefs

undermined the dignity of the ethnic group. For example, in Brazil, the Blacks are relegated to
the lowest stature and lowest paying job sin the economic and social strata. Another example is
the case where the Blacks became the victim of institutional prejudice where the institutions
refuse to invest in the education for the Blacks. This practice challenges the future employment
prospects of the group.
The mulattos form 47% of the total population in Brazil (Cia.gov, 2019). The African
group’s income are less in comparison to the Whites. Unemployment is higher among the
African group as compared to the White Brazilians. The participation rates of the ethnic groups
are lower as compared to the Whites.
The Brazilian government has opted policies that can address and alleviate the racial and
ethnic prejudices. The Government of Brazil had included and increased the funding policies that
can assist in the audiovisual productions by women belonging to the indigenous and black
section (Brazil, 2019). In order to generate knowledge and reduce the prejudices, the Brazilian
government has also opted the policy of generating tourism in Tocantins that offers to uphold the
folk cultures of the Indians (Brazil, 2019). These policies can assist in the erasure of various
prejudices and result in the greater acceptance of the cultures of the various ethnic groups.
This country can face the challenge of erasing the intrinsic prejudiced mindset and beliefs
of the non-colored Brazilians. This country can also face the challenge of resolving the conflicts
that are prevalent amongst the various ethnic groups. The country can also face the challenge of
implementing the various policies that address the issues of racial and ethnic stereotypes.
