Research topic- Role of electrotherapy for treating sports injuries, related to muscle, tendons,
joints, ligaments, spinal discs, cartilage and bones.
Sports therapies generally involve the musculoskeletal disorders like ankle sprain, low back pain,
spinal dysfunction and other sports related muscle injuries. Sports therapy is mainly associated
with the prevention of injury in sports person and rehabilitation of the patient with back to the
normal levels of occupational, functional and fitness that is sports specific, irrespective of the
age, sex and ability. There are various sports therapy techniques, but the topic for the research
proposal is electrotherapy.
Electrotherapy is a type of medical treatment that involves the use of small electric impulses in
order to repair torn tissue, stimulate the muscles, raise the muscular sensation , muscle strength
and ease out the pain.
Several forms of electrotherapy can be used in case of sports injury, which includes-
Ultrasound therapy
Transcutanous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)
Laser therapy
Muscle stimulation therapy.
Interferential therapy
The ultrasound therapy involves the use of sound waves for healing muscle and ankle sprains,
TENS and interferential therapy helps to reduce the pain by manipulating the nerves, producing a
tingling effect.
