INTRODUCTION
Management of Festivals and Events from a Global Perspective is a one-of-a-kind book that
examines the importance of event management in the cultural, tourist, and arts industries
(Bengtsson-Palme and Larsson, 2015). Around 19,000 people attended WOMADelaide 2021,
which took place in Adelaide's King Rodney Park from March 5-8, to mark the return of
large-scale live music events. Reviewers and spectators alike praised the film's improved

The chosen event
WOMADelaide 2021, held between 5-8 March in Adelaide's King Rodney Park, saw around
19,000 people celebrate the return of large-scale live music activities. Its revised COVID-
Safe concept was accepted and lauded as a huge success by reviewers and viewers alike. The
four evenings included two amazing performances by Midnight Oil, a spectacular
performance by Tash Sultana, their first since the release of their new number one album, and
an emotional goodbye concert by Archie Roach (Bowman, 2017). On the first night of the
festival, Roach received a standing ovation as he performed a musical journey spanning his
extraordinary three-decade career, which includes seven appearances at WOMADelaide.
Archie combined extremely personal tales of experiences and grief into a performance that
drove the crowd to tears, using songs from Charcoal Lane. Compassion, a gorgeous song
cycle of ancient Hebrew and Arabic texts performed by vocalist Lior, conductor Nigel
Westlake, and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra on Friday, was a revelation. Sarah Blasko
brought the night to a conclusion with a magnificent and dramatic performance,
commemorating the tenth anniversary of her breakout album.
