INTRODUCTION Narrative intervention is the means for encouraging behaviour change which are common in the present developing world. This capitalises on story telling tendencies which provides opportunities for the purpose of growth and development. This further helps in self awareness and self knowledge which are constructed to a significant degree. This is an important aspect of language. These skills are relatable with academic and social importance. This is required to delivered in a small group of people for the purpose of facilitating, independent practice of oral narration. It is related to orally presenting the events or experiences which are faced by the people. This report will explain the incident from the Gem Unpolished which has identified the gap and then a creative response is made. After developing creative response, it has given a written statement which will highlight the various choices that are undertaken and its purposes. MAIN BODY PART 1: CREATIVE RESPONSE . Unpolished Gem is a story by Alice Pung and the gap selected in this is the impact on grandmother after the death of little brother. It was that evening, when my grandmother was cooking and handling my little brother as well. She was very close to her and can do anything to make him happy. On that day, when my little brother was crying, my grand mother has come into room, healed him and hugged her by saying that if he will be quiet then he will get his favourite lollies. After saying this, she has given him lollies in his mouth, through which he became quiet and grandmother promised him that she will give him more through out that night if he will sleep or remain quiet. Then she left him in the room and went to kitchen to make roasted pork and meat. In this situation, my grand father and our servant were there before my grand mother could reach. After few hours, she gave a thought to go and check the room and when she went to room, she saw the lucky lollies were scattered on the floor she found that her shelf was lying on the floor and everywhere there was drop of blood. After seeing that blood my grandmother could not control her emotions. At that time, our servant was screaming, she was screaming so loud till another little brother who was sleeping in another room could not wake up. At that time, my grandfather also shouted on our servant to dos not make the situation more worse for her wife that is my grand mother. At that
moment I remember clearly, that why my grandmother does not allow me to take pen or pencil in my mouth. My grand mother was very close to my little brother and she was not able to bear that pain. She screamed by saying let me see little brother and this time my grand father stopped her and the pain was so unbearable that my grand father and our servant has stopped her from seeing the little brother. There was flesh and blood all the floor. At this moment, my grand mother has significant impact on her health both physically and mentally. She felt so helpless and blames her self for the incident that took place in the house on that day. She misses the little brother everyday. She does not even ate food and if some one asks her to eat then she replies that my little brother must be hungry so how can I eat. All this has led to her severe health problems as well. My grand mother cried all the day, she stopped cooking or doing any work, she kept on saying every time that please let me see my little brother. Her health was becoming miserable day by day, doctors has asked her to eat health food so that she can cope up with the situations. Doctors has asked to keep her happy. Her mental health was also affected and she has went to the depression in which she either sleeps all the time or when ever she was awake, she used to cry all the time. Due to this, her skin and eyes were become so lame and the high dose effects of medicines has also leads to the obesity problem in my grand mother. PART2 : WRITERS STATEMENT This will describe the situation that what could have been done under such condition so that grand mother could be handled properly and effectively. When it was realised that little brother is no more, then grand mother was crying and screaming miserably to see the brother but she was not allowed. If she could have seen her then she might feel bit relieved that during the last stage of the brother, grand mother was with him. After his death, grand mother conditions become miserable so she should have been taken to parks and gardens and must be surrounded with friends and families so that she does not feel alone. Apart from this, she must be involved in activities because if she will be kept busy then it will become easier for her to forget the incidents. Further more, she should not be stopped by her grand father because at that moment she required his support so that she can heal with such pains and if support was provided than the condition could be somewhat different compared to what it is now. She should be went to several meditation and yoga centres which will improve their mental ability and keep them motivated. It will provide them calmness and patience. Also this could have been reduced the obesity problem
