1. Executive Summary/Background of the case
The chosen case highlights the fact that the best managers are mostly
leaders, driven by emotion who have the capability of motivating and leading a
team in an effective manner. The chosen case provides an idea of the competency
models of leadership that is based on the logical decision making process. The case
provides an idea of the issues faced during the launch of Hubble telescope that in
turn enables Charles to discover true leadership. The issues faced in the launch of
Hubble telescope due to ineffective management of the project that is being
undertaken. The report is prepared to discuss the leadership issues that a project
might face due to ineffective leadership. The report will identify the ethical issues
associated with the Hubble telescope launch case. The leadership issues, leadership
style, process success and the ethical issues are discussed in the following
paragraphs.
2. Leadership Issues
There are a number of issues that can arise if leader of a project is
ineffective. An ineffective leadership can result in increase of the communication
issues leading to internal conflict [3]. The inefficiency of a leader is leading a project
team can result in various management problems within team. Ineffective
leadership problem can result in low motivation among the team members [1]. Low
motivation can result in increase in issues within the team along with development
of poor relationship among the team members.
An ineffective leader can result in decrease in the productivity of the entire
project team. Decrease in team productivity can result in failure of a project.
Employee engagement in a project is largely dependent on the motivation that the
stakeholders provide to the team [2]. The issues of ineffective leadership can result
in increase of the departmental conflict, which is one of the major leadership issues
that a project might face. Therefore, it is necessary for a team to choose an
effective leader who would help in team motivation and successful project
completion.
