INTERNETWORKING TECHNOLOGIES
1. Project Scope
The network solution is developed for a hospital building consisting of five floors in each of the three
buildings of the hospital. The building floor plan is used for the management of the network
framework and identification of the hardware device that are needed to be installed for the
development of the network. The network points that are needed to be created for each of the
department should be identified for the development of the network framework. The following
scope are created for the development of the project and listed below:
Development of a subnet plan for the allocation of the IP address to the network device
installed in the network and reduce the wastage of the IP address
To analyse the future growth of the organization and management of the communication
between the department and sharing of information between the devices connected in the
network.
The network points should be created and different vlans should be created for each of the
department such that the collision in the network should be avoided and the efficiency of
the network is improved
Use of encryption algorithm for the configuration of the wireless access point and restrict
the unwanted user to connect with the network and secure it from external agents
Installation of server for recording the organizational information and following a naming
structure for naming the devices and protect the network from different types of network
threats.
2. Project hardware Requirement
For the development of the network framework of the hospital the following network devices are
necessary and the detailed specification of the network device used for the development of the
network framework are given in the below table.

Network Topology
The network topology is used for the management of the structure of the network solution and a
three layer hierarchical model is used for the development of the network framework. The three
layers are the core, access and distribution layer. The access layer is used for the management of the
switching platform and connecting the host with the network. The distribution layer is used for
filtering and management of the network traffic. It acts as a workgroup layer and deals with
delivering the data packets to the destination address form the source address. The core layer is
used for the management of the high speed connection. In this layer redundant links are created

such that different paths can be selected by the data packet to reach the distribution and the packet
is successfully delivered to the destination address at a minimal time frame.
Types of cables
The followings are the different types of network cables that are used for interconnecting the
network devices such as switches, routers and the host pc with each other.

Name of the Server, Pc with Specification
The server and the Pc used for the configuration off the network are selected as the Windows Pc
host and for the management of the information system of the hospital two servers namely Web
server and a DHCP server is essential. The web server is used for hosting the website of the
organization and the DHCP server is configured for the allocating the IP address to the different vlan
following the subnet plan created for each off the floors of the buildings. The specification of the
server are given below:
DHCP Server
o Processor - Intel Core i5 7400 (LGA1151) 7th Generation Processor
o Memory - 8 GB RAM
o Operating system - Windows Server 2012 R2
o HDD - 500 GB
o Raid 5 for SQL Data files
o Raid 1 for SQL LOG files
WEB Server
o Processor - Intel 3.3GHz LGA 1155 Core I3 2120 Processor
o Memory - 8 GB RAM
o Operating System - Windows server 2012 R2 64 bits
o HDD - 500 GB
o Raid 5 for SQL Data files
o Raid 1 for SQL LOG files
For the host PC a minimal specification is maintained that would help the user to maintain their daily
operations and the specification of the PCs are given below:
