Figure 1: Logical Network Design of Store Network
The logical network design for the new store that needs to be created for McDonalds
is shown by the Figure 1 as demonstrated above. This diagram shows how the McDonalds
store avails the centrally managed services of McDonalds through the cloud based data
centres. The diagram also shows how the product inventory of the store can checked by users
from homes or smartphones. The network will therefore require the following network
equipment:
1 Routing device that supports both Ethernet and WAN connections
1 Layer 2 switching device
2 Wireless Access Points
2 VoIP Phones

What are the main integration points?
The key integration points are the main router of the new McDonalds store for which
the network transition is to be made. This router acquires network services from the ISP
through a Wide Area Network (WAN) network and does so by installing WIC-1T ports in the
main router where the RS232 serial cables are connected.
Through the ISP the store network securely connects to the internal network of McDonalds
through VPN tunnels as also connects to users via the Internet.
The services made available by the internal network of McDonalds are availed by the newly
set up store network through the cloud servers with the use of suitable applications like
Microsoft Azure. These can include web server, mailing and FTP services.
The overall network with HQ is to be connected with a secure payment gateway for
validating the transaction process.
From the Fast Ethernet ports the main router provides connections to the 2 VoIP phones and
the 2 Wireless Access Points.
The workstations are connected to the router through wireless networks with the help of
wireless NIC cards installed.
The individual server of two kiosks of the store obtain network connections from the 2
wireless access points.
The 2 CCTVs are the IoT devices that are integrated with the kiosk server which serves as the
registration server and also contains configuration for DHCP and DNS services. The DHCP

and DNS services of the workstations are configured in the sub-interfaces of different
VLANs in the main router.
Therefore, a major network with class C address and a CIDR mask of 24 is enough to ensure
connections for the store network.
What will be the form for Change management?
Changes in the configuration of network devices can result in considerable impacts on
the performance and availability of the network. Changes to critical devices in the network
like the routers or thee servers can affect the network services for the connected devices.
These can include changes to DHCP pools in the router, changes to the DNS or remote host
of the kiosk server and must be immediately notified to the network administrator to prevent
any network downtime.
The network configuration manager helps in configuring such notifications for each
kind of change which can be the following:
Configuration for Startup and Running of network services
Change of mailing configuration
Configuration changes for Syslog messages
Configuration changes for ticket generation
Communications management – with who and when?
The communications of the newly setup network store includes secure and isolated
network communications with the internal network of McDonalds, communications with the
systems of users over the Internet through the company web portal hosted by the servers of
the cloud network. The communications and interactions with the users and customers from
home networks is made secure by making use of the SSL VPN services acquired for the web
and DNS services of the workstations are configured in the sub-interfaces of different
VLANs in the main router.

from a web server set up in the internal network of the McDonalds HQ and then the resources
for the services being provided are offloaded to the servers of cloud networks. Hence the
McDonalds stores of all sites as well as the HQ needs to have Microsoft Azure installed to
manage the resource needs for the services as and when required. The overall McDonalds
network infrastructure also provides network security and isolation of the network from the
attackers by use of VPN services with the help of suitable applications like OpenVPN. This
software VPN application thus needs to be installed in systems of all networks of different
McDonalds plant sites.
This requires repeating activities of planning, development, integration, testing and
running of these services and can be required to be made compatible for devices of multiple
platforms. There exists different phases which companies use for ensuring release
management of various applications and services for devices used by them as well as those
used by the customers. These are application release automation, build automation, change
management, test plan, software testing and continuous testing.
Knowledge management – about what and who is the audience?
With the knowledge management process the new store as well as the McDonalds HQ
can get to know about the scope of clients and users that the company can cater to. This
includes both physically oriented services as well as online services for initiating home
delivery of food products. The setup of a new store can enable the company to open up
services to offer to users of a completely new geographic location. This requires getting to
know about the culture and financial conditions of the customer base.
Support – What form will it take?
The company must always ensure that the customers stay in loop of the services that
are being provided to them. This can be ensured by sending the customers automated SMS
from a web server set up in the internal network of the McDonalds HQ and then the resources
for the services being provided are offloaded to the servers of cloud networks. Hence the
