Introduction
BPL refers to the broadband overpower a line which is a technique of power
line interaction which enables consumers for transferring data with high
speed. Such kind of communication technology uses larger frequencies and
high-level power-lines for providing better data rate to the users. It is an
advanced communication system that has the potential to improve the
overall performance of existing power lines and enhance the data speed of
computing networks. Security is the biggest issue associated with
communication channels due to which users may lose their private details
(Alam, et al., 2012). The purpose of this investigation is to explore the
various applications of the BPL system and analyze the working principles
of underlying networking technology. There are various sections will be
included in this report for example, applications of BPL, issues related to
the underlying networking and their working principles.
Applications of BPL
The term BPL is defined as a technology which enables signals to be
transferred over the utility power lines and cables. It is also called as power
line communication that uses medium and low band frequency bands in
order to operate and perform communication between the networks
(Berger, et al., 2014). It is one of the best power line systems that provides
large data rate over the networks due to which it can be used for long-
distance communication. There are numerous applications of this
technology which are described below:
Smart grid application
BPL is an advanced communication technology which is now used in the
smart grid systems for improving the performance of communication
channels and networks. It is observed that BPL has the ability to improve
the performance of communication networks due to which it can be used in

the smart grids where it helps for transferring data over the networks in
less time. A recent study identified that broadband over power lines are
able to move a large number of data sets on the smart grid and it does not
require any external networks for performing communication between two
or more sources (Cheng, Cao, and Yang, 2013). The major benefit of this
technology is the large data rate due to which it can be used in the smart
grid systems.
Data communication
BPL is a part of the power line technology that has the ability to monitor the
communication between the networks. in this modern era, the use of
wireless networks are growing rapidly due to which the users required
more effective and appropriate communication system which can provide
large data transmission speed. Such kind of problem can be solved with the
help of BPL technology that uses power lines and networks for performing
communication-related activities. Because of this large data speed and low
cost, BPL technology is mainly used in the data communication where the
consumer can transmit data or signals from one network to another (Della,
et al., 2013).
Distributed power generation
The major application of BPL technology is distributed power generation
where the users can produce a large amount of power from the main server
and networks. A recent study identified that BPL is a part of power line
communication which is able to generate distributed power from the
sources (Held, 2016). With the help of this technology, the users may
enhance the effectiveness of the systems and also monitor the transmissions
of the data over the networks.
Automated meter reading
It is a kind of technology that collects data automatically from the servers
and networks in which BPL based communication system can be used for
