AI Summary
This poster presentation explores new approaches to embracing neuroscience in the counselling profession, including polyvagal theory and memory reconsolidation. It discusses how these approaches can assist counsellors in identifying the social and psychological experiences of their patients. The presentation also covers the cognitive behavioural therapy modality and its effectiveness in treating mental health conditions and psychiatric disorders.

Counselling assists human beings and their families
sensing about the kinds of problem that they are
experiencing with the info which they required to think
about for resolving issues. This poster presentation will
represent some impactful approaches to embracing
neuroscience in counselling profession. Each area of
neuroscience is having something to sum to the
evolving knowledge of how the constructs of neural of
brain affect and relate to, the mental health. By using
this neuroscience approaches, the counsellor faces less
difficulties in knowing the reasons that why the patient
is thinking abnormally. According to that reasons, they
can give counselling to their patient. An enhanced
knowledge of the neural makeup of mind and brain has
assisted to develop two main findings for psychologists
and psychotherapists epigenesis and plasticity of brain
(Duenyas, D.L. & Luke, C., 2019).
There is two-part antagonistic system pictured before
polyvagal theory that is with less activation signalling more
calming and more activation signalling less calming.
Polyvagal theory recognises a different type of response of
nervous system that is social engagement system, it is a
playful mixture of calming and activation which generates
out of especial nerve impact (Javanbakht, A. & Alberini,
C.M., 2019).
The social engagement system of polyvagal theory assists
the counsellor to navigate relationships. Assisting their
clients shift into utilisation of their social engagement
system permits them to become too pliable in their surviving
style. Polyvagal theory is important for both the client and
counsellors to be able to precisely recognised the state of
patient nervous systems at various point in time both out in
the broad world and in the counselling session. Only at the
time when soles are capable to identify their place on the
map of polyvagal can they start the journey back to
connection and calm. Throughout the whole counselling
session, patients are persistently showing reaction to these
signal with dorsal shutdown or ventral openness, trust and
sympathetic activation. Therefore, from a perspective of
polyvagal healing patients and counsellor relationships need
counsellors to know their ANS and learn the way to regulate
it in the midst and in the moment of any session.
Neuroscience
Neuroscience, it is any or all of the sciences, like
experimental psychology and neurochemistry, that deal
with the function and structure of brain and nervous
system. The scientific study of the nervous system or
brain is essential for the scientific analysation of mind.
Polyvagal theory
These theory proposes that physiological state
restrict the range of psychological and behaviour
experience. It also proposes that the development of the
autonomic nervous system of mammals contribute the
neurophysiological substrates to adaptive behavioural
approaches. Picturing the chemistry of brain can be
something such as picturing a hurricane. Polyvagal theory
was given by stephen porges' which provides counsellors
or psychologist an essential or useful figure of the
nervous system which can direct them to their efforts to
assist patients. Polyvagal theory develops with the vagus
nerve and the vagus nerve is the calming aspect of our
nervous system which perform the parasympathetic
nervous system.

Memory reconsolidation
Memory reconsolidation research through neuroscientist
has indicate the deletion of emotional learnings. The
deletion and erasure process includes of the formation
fixed experiences need by the nervous system or brain. It
neither limits nor dictates the experimental ways that
counsellors can utilise to promote the required
experiences. All the psychotherapist and counsellors
target to assist their patients permanently cure undesired
behaviours, somatization, thoughts and emotions. Yet, too
many counsellors also identify that number of the changes
they promote are susceptible and incremental to relapse,
rather than life-altering and transformation. Memory
reconsolidation invented in the period of 1997 to 2000, is
the innate mechanism of the brain through which
experiences of new learning directly repeat the current
contents of memory obtained in previous learning. This
memory content updating attains replace at both the level
of neural encoding and the level of subjecting
experiencing. It is an experience-driven procedure of
neurological changes. It is a basic mechanism which has
been involved to many various kinds of memory using
many various experiential procedures, generating various
kind and level of changes (Goss, D. & Parnell, T., 2016).
The basic idea of memory reconsolidation hypothesis
accounts that molecular trace of memory in the brain
becomes plastic, when a memory is called back. Memory
reconsolidation allows counsellors and psychotherapist to
evaluate emotionally-coded and traumatic memories and
generates a routes to decode those traumatic and
emotionally coded memories. Memory reconsolidation is
the stabilization of a reactivated memory in context of
neurobiological.
Information fits into counselling practice
According to the above information, counsellors get support
from the polyvagal theory. such as by the help of polyvagal
theory, counsellors can identify the state of psychological and
social experiences of the patients. Polyvagal theory provides the
actual neurological picture of patient for the counsellors and
psychotherapist. Polyvagal theory is vital to both the client and
psychotherapist to be able to accurately recognised the state of
nervous systems of patient at various level in time both out in the
broad world and during the counselling period. Memory
reconsolidation point out deletion of emotional learning.
Memory reconsolidation is the innate mechanism of the nervous
system and brain via which experiences of new learning directly
revise the present contents of memory achieved in previous
learning. It assists the counsellors and psychotherapist to
reactivate the old memory by ART mechanism. It also stabilized
reactivated memory in terms of neurobiological.
Strengths and limitations
Conclusion
Based on the above discussion through this
poster presentation it has been concluded that
polyvagal theory assists the psychotherapist and
counsellor to recognise the social and
psychological experiences. Whereas, memory
recommendation is based on the aspects of
deletion of memory learnings. In this poster
presentation, CBT modality has been discussed,
which is also known as cognitive behavioural
therapy.
Strength of polyvagal theory: help to
recognised the social and psychological
experiences of patient.
limitations of polyvagal theory: failed to know
the emphasis of theory on the functional changes
and unique structural in the regulation of the
ANS.
Strength of memory reconsolidation theory: it
can underpin the long lasting memory
improvements and can provide new strategies to
enhance memories.
limitation of memory reconsolidation theory:
it is not done with dementia patient because it a
illness condition which is very difficult to treat.
Counselling modality
CBT MODALITY: It is the cognitive behavioural therapy, is
an impactful form of treatment to mental health condition and
psychiatric disorders. The patients who suffers from the
destructive thought patterns are treated by CBT modalities. It is
an evidence based modality that encourages patients for question
and evaluate their recurring thoughts. Through this patient learns
to manage or handle the challenging conditions with effective
and new coping skills. This will assist patients to recover out the
destructive thoughts patterns which identified as unhealthy and
negative (Gilbert, P. & Kirby, J.N., 2019).
