3NEWACCESS: MENTAL HEALTH INTERVENTION
Introduction:
NewAccess is a new dynamic approach to early intervention for mental health support
developed by Beyondblue and funded by the Commonwealth government through the help of the
Gold Coast Primary Health Network (Beyondblue, 2018). This program is delivered by Bolton
Clarke. The program is launched on 8th June in Southport and made available to the locals aged
16 and over to people who are struggling with their personal life as well as professional life
(Cromarty et al., 2016). People who feel the challenges and feel overwhelmed and anxious
unnecessarily are provided with this program (Lawrence et al., 2015). The program is developed
to help the young adults of the age group 17 to 25; however, it has been found to be a necessity
for the younger age groups as well. It is often seen that people do not seek help for mental health
even when they need it and the NewAccess is developed to overcome the key issues that prevent
people from seeking help for mental health such as cost, stigma attached to it and lack of
support. In this program, people can choose the medium to access the program via video app,
face time, Skype and in person face to face. The only consideration is the age factor that needs to
be above sixteen (Nejad & Nejad, 2014). The program lets people access six private sessions
with their assigned coach professionally qualified (Koivu et al., 2016).
Problem:
A young adult of age 27 was under moderate depression that was caused by a collision
between the person he was and what his wife expected out of him in his personality. With all the
years of his socialisation and way of upbringing was not as per his wife’s expectation. The life
event was building for a very long time and initially it was not even considered significant. The
clinical anxiety was the primary reason for seeing a therapist. Visiting a doctor for the anxiety

need. Altogether it resulted in an unhealthy mental condition that could lead to a serious
problem. He took long to make the decision of going to a doctor as there is a stigma attached to
it, also, in his busy schedule it was hard to find some quality time.
