2 PHARMACOLOGYImmunityImmunity refers to the condition of being resistant or insusceptible to foreign bodiesthat cause harm to the normal body functioning and holds much significance in relation toprognosis of diseases. Through a succession of steps known as the immune response, theimmune system responds to the organisms invading body systems. The two main types ofimmunity are innate immunity, which is inborn, and acquired immunity that is developedduring the lifespan. In both the cases, the immunity system of the body responds to theforeign particle when encountered the first time and develops a memory for it. The body isresistant to the particle and at time of successive encounters the foreign particle is not able tocause harm to the body. Acquired immunity is of two kinds; naturally and artificiallyacquired. Naturally acquired immunity might be active, gained through disease exposure, orpassive gained through maternal Ig. Artificially acquired immunity might also be activegained through vaccination or passive through antisera. Immunoglobulins (Ig) are theantibodies that developed within the body against the antigen or foreign body. Vaccines areactive immunisation agents prepared from killed microorganisms against which resistant is tobe developed. They act to prevent the development of the disease and are safe for human use. However, some side effects include fever, dizziness, headache and nausea (Moini, 2015). I would like to mention how immunity plays an important role for humans to becomeresistant to infectious bodies upon successive exposures. I had suffered chicken pox when Iwas three years old. Chicken pox is caused by infection with Varicella-zoster virus (VZV).As a result, I had developed naturally acquired immunity against successive exposure to thedisease since my body had developed antibody proteins against the virus. Last year, myfriend had developed the same disease before her examination. It is known that the virus iscontagious and humans coming in contact with the infected person also gets infected. As I
