INTRODUCTION
Essay is basically short piece of the writing which outlines the perspective and
viewpoints of writer. Essay writing is an effective skill which shows how effectively and in a
concise form students and writers are able to present their ideas as well as arguments and to what
extent they present themselves. In short, essay writing forms an integral part of the academic life
and helps the students to increase their overall skills as well as qualities along with experience.
The essay writing primarily help the students to present themselves and express their ideas in
their own way and style.
The main aim of this report is to make the students aware about the key skills which are
required and which are essential for writing an effective essay. The main rationale of carrying
out this discussion is to explain students about the skills which they need to incorporate within
them and help them to make an effective essay. The main purpose of this discussion is to
increase the essay writing skills within students and this report will help them to assess
themselves against these skills.
This report gives an overview of note taking, paraphrasing, summarising and quoting for
essay writing.
MAIN BODY
Note taking is considered as one of the most important skill in essay writing and thus
mainly relates to writing down the notes and summary of specific topic. It is highly essential for
the students to inculcate a skill of note taking in order to improve their essay writing. When
students make notes of what they have read or listen then this eventually helps them to better
understand the topic in-depth and contributes to their learning ability (Silawati (2019, April).
This also helps them to write a through and well-presented essay because when students make
notes of each and every things which they see then this increase their grasp on the keywords and
other complex words. These words and synonyms are very helpful in the essay writing as this
makes the essay more presentable and also reflects the knowledge of writer. Besides this, as
essay is generally recognized by its attractiveness, way of writing as well as incorporating
concise matter in short paragraph. Thus, note making helps the students to become aware of the
essential words and its synonyms and which eventually helps them to present a good and
attractive essay for securing higher grades (Xhama (2018).
