INTRODUCTION
Numeracy can be defined as skills and competencies that can be utilised in order to gain
proper learnings. This is helpful for learners which makes them acquire content in an impressive
way exploiting several mathematical sources in different situations and time beings. It aims on
collecting facts relevant to mathematical sources that can be used properly in any environment
whether domestic or global. It determines and understands the major aim behind what is learned
and how effectively it is learnt as educator has delivered in his teaching method (Burnett 2016).
The goal of report is to serve utilisation and execution of business studies programmes which are
to be required for execution as they can facilitate vocabulary of language. The report details on
how business studies can be used with numeracy to develop understanding. Along with this
approaches and their critical evaluation is also performed as to which can be used in meeting the
numeracy.
MAIN BODY
Improving learning of Business Studies using numeracy that can program efficiency
Numeracy in business studies can improve learning and enhance competencies of
educators (Rohendi 2019). Through this they can effectively deliver the subject matter in a
proper way so that learners are also benefited. It is necessary for teachers who deliver their
thoughts in Business Studies to develop their numeracy through processing possibility and using
them mathematical for enhancing opinions that changes scope of situations which are connected
to the content. They can heighten their skills through reading books and articles of the same
content deeply. New teachers can learn through experiences of senior teachers and try to reduce
the complexities which might occur in the process. While the senior teachers are required to
formulate plan of action from their past experiences as they know where problem can arise.
Along with this teaching programmes should be initiated and the teachers and professors should
participate in them, to enhance their knowledge (Chigeza and Sorin 2016). Learners along with
educators should participate in the program so that knowledge of both sides are increased and
information related to business studies and its topics are increased. Numeracy plays an important
role in business studies as the main objective is to perform the business practice which needs
mathematical skills and concepts such as GST, cash receipts, deductions, Bank reconciliation,
sales price etc. That is the reason business studies teachers focus on numeracy.

Critical evaluation how numeracy can effectively be considered with discrete and embedded
approaches
To enhance numeracy skills, it is required for teachers to follow a systematic plan of
action and improvise the working plan. In this regards there are mainly two approaches namely
discrete and embedded approach which are effective in their own manner.
These can be studied as:
Discrete Approach
Discrete Approach can be termed as a model where distinct approaches are used which
are totally different from that of existing ones. These are tangible ones which are sheer from the
start to end. This can be used without complexities thus developing mastery over a subject that is
studied. These directly impacts on enrichment of improving vocabulary associated to business
studies. As discrete approach focuses on one subject this will help a student to learn and
understand the concept of business studies. Merits: The discrete approach can enable educators to develop interest of learners in
particular subject which make them gathering knowledge with a wider scope. This will
improvise vocabulary related to business studies which will make their facts clear and
sorted.
Demerits: As discrete approach is a systematic plan of action it will require a long time to
execute it thus making it a complex process (Craig 2018). Also when approach is to be
inculcated it requires a depth study which will take a long time and can result in shifting
focus from main task.
Embedded Approach
The embedded approach is that which is already rooted in the content. It means
combining the development of any vocational program connected with the existing one. This
involves such techniques where improvement can be done in two or more skills at a same time. It
is integrated in a way that learner can improvise his knowledge. Irrespective of hurdles in the
path of learners which are challenges in keeping up with motivation. Along with catering this
knowledge is also improved when learners follow embedded approach as many of techniques are
followed in existing process. It is nothing new as this approach is followed on existing terms. It

becomes effective for the student who have less knowledge about business studies programme as
it helps in motivating them for understanding importance of business in their career. Merits: It is favourable when approach is to be executed in large masses. It is stable and
constant which increases dependability upon the approach. Along with this they require
very less manpower thus resulting in efficiency and good gains to learners and institution
as well.
Demerits: This is rigid method and cannot be changed as per required. As they are daily
used they are hard to maintain as they are interconnected and changing one process can
affect whole system.
Evaluation of which can be used:
From the above it can be said that discrete approach is suitable to develop effectiveness
in improving numeracy as it is flexible and can be changed according top circumstances which is
a vital factor of any approach (Jain and Rogers 2019). Discrete approach focuses on one skill that
will help the individual to learn and understand it effectively. In this step by step process is there
that helps the students to learn and improve the specific skill. That will help the individual in
business studies programme. The problem associated is that the student has to listen, study hear
about one skill. On the other side embedded approach the teacher focuses on students that are not
doing good. It is effective as the learner is motivated and efforts are done to make him/her study.
This will help as the focus is on making student understand the concept.
Strategies that can develop languages and literacy skills to improve numeracy vocabulary of
Business studies.
To develop languages and literacy skills which will enhance numeracy vocabulary of
business studies requires a systematic plan of actions (Miller 2018). The professors are required
to make a systematic plan involving flexible strategies which can be moulded as required. Some
of the strategies can be :
Habit of reading should be developed by providing an appropriate environment with good
reading materials.
Games and competitions should be organised so that interest is enhanced.
Motivation should be given both monetary as well as non monetary.

CONCLUSION
All in all it can be concluded that to explain and enhance knowledge of learners regarding
any topic the educators are required to be efficient. For this they are required to follow
appropriate approach and can make relevant process easy. There are two approaches studied and
both of them have their own significance and disadvantages. Top develop knowledge vocabulary
is significant to be improved and for that discrete approach is better as it is a systematic plan of
action which results efficiency.
