Literature search helps in studying or evaluating the effectiveness of certain method or about a field of study with the help of
knowledge from study conducted by different authors and researchers. It involves certain vocabulary, key variables, phenomena
and theories. Based on that knowledge, effectiveness regrading a particular topic is evaluated. In this assignment the patient is
chosen who has been suffering from rectal cancers and has underwent Abdominoperineal operation. By the help of different
literature search, it has been identified that abdominoperineal resection, is one of the most commonly used method in case of
rectal cancers. Several other procedure are also used for the treatment of the rectal cancer such as extralevator abdominoperineal
resection. However after conducting the literature review it is observed that, conventional abdominoperineal resection have
advantage over other methods. It is less expensive than other methods as well as it also provides high success than most of the
other methods. In this assignment the research question is whether the abdominoperineal resection is one of the most effective
method in the treatment of rectal cancer. By the help of literature review, the research problem has been evaluated. With the help
of existing literature that has been performed by different researchers and scientist, where primary research has been conducted,
information regarding the effectiveness of the treatment has been evaluated. There are thousands and thousands of literature which
includes abdominoperineal resection, hence in order to get the appropriate journal, it is very important to include the appropriate

key words and exclude the key words that are no important. With the help of inclusion and exclusion of keywords, relevant

exact information and then from all the result the much relayed information are included. As in the case of Simon Jones, articles
which sates the effectiveness of abdominoperineal resection and states advantage over other method are selected for the

In this section, the chosen patient is Simon Jones, who has been diagnosed with rectal cancer. He had received several session of
chemotherapy and radiotherapy. After that he had undergone an operation as prescribed by the general practitioner, named as
Abdominoperineal operation. Within several days of operation, his situation has been improved. There are many others ways to
deal with rectal cancers, but he underwent Abdominoperineal operation. Is Abdominoperineal operation is one of the most
effective treatment in the case of rectal cancers?

has undergone abdominoperineal resection. The research problem discussed in the assignment is the effectiveness of

From the above article, it can be concluded that abdominoperineal resection is considered as one of the most effective method in the treatment of the
rectal cancer. To evaluate the effectiveness of the abdominoperineal resection, literature search has been conducted. Literature search is conducted by using the
combination of different keywords such as, Abdominoperineal Resection, rectal cancer, resection margin, perioperative and other keywords. With the help of
the combination of these keywords, article related to the research problem is identified and is selected. To get the latest article, articles within 5 years of range
are selected. After applying filter (5 years of range), numerous papers are found from where, the paper which provides the most relatable information with the
research question is selected. After selecting the journals from different database such as, google scholar and pubmed, reliability and credibility of the paper is
deduced. If the paper provides the reliable result that is it can be further used for similar cases is selected. With the help of literature search, related information
can be found in a very less amount of time. From the selected paper, it can be stated that, conventional abdominoperineal resection provides advantage over
other methods such as extralevator resection. Due to the effectiveness of the abdominoperineal resection, it is most commonly advised by the general
practitioner and is widely. It is also more cost effective method than other method. With the help of existing literature done by peer researcher, more reliable
information is taken and hence it is one of the most effective method to search a particular information. However, conducting a literature search is not that easy.
To extract the most relatable, it is very important to follow the certain criteria such as, time period and appropriate key words and combination of key words.
Inclusion and exclusion of keywords also plays an important role in the selection of the journals. In the above research, these criteria are clearly mentioned and
explained.
