TOPIC: “PATIENT NARRATIVES OF THEIR ILLNESS EXPERIENCEENABLES HEALTH PROFESSIONALS TO GET AN INSIGHT INTO THEPATIENT SELF-CONCEPT AND SELF-ESTEEM.”Introduction Modern day healthcare services have transformed largely. These are more quick andeffective and have almost eradicated obscenely long waits which previously existed. Theimprovements in significant care processes has caused reduction in number of deaths whichoccurred through lack of awareness of people (Goodrich and Cornwell, 2017). This assessmentaims to provide an insight regarding the role patient narratives play when considering delivery ofhealth care services by respective professionals. Furthermore, the relative concepts linked withillness experience will be provided to provide greater understanding of services provided byhealthcare professionals.Role of Patient narrativesThe state of unhealthiness is a condition in which a person is not able to cope withmental, emotional or health disturbances. This particular experience of illness when described bythe patient itself is considered as patient narrative. Medical help can only be provided whenindividuals have proper communication with their health care supporter. According to Hoeve,Jansen and Roodbol, (2014), the entire working environment of healthcare system is gettingtransformed due to increase in orientation of medical practitioners. This inclination is towardspatient-centred care. Furthermore, the increasing awareness of individuals regarding medicalconditions and their interventions has caused people to shift towards ethical practises (Thenarrative in patient-centred care. 2008). In this complete set-up a major contribution inbetterment of the society is due to patient narratives. Pedersen, Straarup and Thomsen (2016) accounted that innovation helps in keeping trackof human activities with development. Often health and social care is considered to be a sectorwhich involves less innovation. Medical practises can be improved to a great extent withinclusion of patient experiences and narratives in the intervention strategy. There are thingswhich may be experienced or faced by the person but not visible at the doctor's or serviceprovider's end. This kind of gap mainly leads to disruption in service delivery and patient suffers3
