NURSING2 Nursing The areas in which you feel confident Being in the army, I have been confident in working as a practical nurse especially in the provision of healthcare in battlefields. Although I am not a registered nurse, I am optimistic that with the knowledge I have attained from the previous courses, I can provide patient-centered care that identifies respect and addresses patient different patient needs and values. I believe that I can coordinate continuous care in the military, through listening to, communicating with and enlightening patients and other caregivers concerning how to enhance their wellbeing by understanding disease management and prevention. The other things I am confident of include trusting that with proper strategies, I can play a key role in caring for the sick in different environments, through participating in health promotion and clinical prevention and providing population-based health care. I also believe that I can apply leadership concepts and proper decision-making skills in the provision of high- quality nursing care. I am also confident that I can portray an awareness of complex organizational systems, and I can also communicate effectively to understand patient needs, improve their safety and provide high-quality services. The areas you know you need more knowledge/skills practice Although my long service in the USA army has enabled me to learn a lot of things regarding my career, there are other aspects that I feel I need more knowledge/skills practice. For instance, I need to improve knowledge concerning the mechanisms that can be used to address discrepancies between the identified standards and practice that may adversely impact patient outcome (Carey, 2012). I also need proper skills concerning information management and
NURSING3 application of patient care technology. The reason why I require this knowledge is that technology and information have become fundamental in nursing practice and therefore to perfect in my duties, I need to have proper understanding the changes that continue to occur in these aspects (Rona, 2012). The other aspect that I need to improve on is cultural sensitivity. When working as a practical nurse, sometimes one is required to work in environments that are challenging due to cultural differences (Lander, 2016). Failing to know how to adapt to these changes may impact the nurse in the provision of healthcare services. Therefore, I require improving knowledge and skills concerning how to cope with cultural differences to perfectly address the needs of all patients. Minimum of five practice goals you set for yourself to achieve during the clinical component of this course To become a better nurse, there are various goals that I seek to attain during the clinical component of this course. The first goal is to understand much about informatics and how they influence nursing profession. The other goal I would like to attain is proper knowledge that will make me to overcome my battlefield related healthcare. Additionally, I would like to achieve skills that can enable me to cope with the different environments and understand customs and beliefs of various people that I shall come across. At the end of this course, I would also like to understand the emerging trends in the nursing profession and what I can do to ensure I perfectly adapt to them. The reason why this goal is important is that as time goes on, new illnesses continue to emerge, leading to changes in patient needs, and forcing the nurses to change their caring strategies (Kathleen, 2013). Lastly, I
NURSING4 have a goal of understanding all healthcare policies, and code of ethics, as well as attain social skills that shall enable me to relate well with patients and their families.
