Running head: NURSING ASSIGNMENT 1Nursing Assignment NameDate of Submission

NURSING ASSIGNMENT 21. Menorrhagia is a medical condition occurring in women during menstrual periods thatare characterized by prolonged or increased bleeding (Wardle, 2017). Thai condition falls underthe abnormal uterine disorders and could be caused by hormone problems, cancer, abnormalitiesin the reproductive systems and other bleeding disorders. However, the treatment of menorrhagiadepends on the exact cause, severity, duration and the extent to which it interferes with theoverall quality of life. 2. Anemia is the decreased level of the amounts of red blood cells in the blood. Thismeans that the blood has a low ability to carry oxygen since the oxygen carrying molecule, hemoglobin is found inside the red blood cells. The common symptoms include feeling tired, shortness of breath and inability to engage in strenuous exercise since the aerobically respiringtissues are deficient of oxygen and thus no energy is available to the cells. 3. Fiona could be suffering from iron deficiency anemia which is quite common due toloss of blood. Moreover, Fiona reports that her diet has been very poor, whereby she has noteaten beef for almost six months, while beef is a source of iron. Her loss of appetite could alsomake her fail to meet the necessary iron levels needed by the body, in addition to the fact that herskin bruises easily. This means that the blood that she is losing is not being replaced at the sameor higher rate, hence the development of anemia. 4. Fiona is feeling short of breath and tired all the time because her cells cannot makeenergy to sustain the exercise. Since the hemoglobin levels are low in Fiona’s blood, they cannotcarry sufficient amounts of oxygen from the lungs to the aerobically respiring tissues to produceenergy in form of ATP through the process of glycolysis.

NURSING ASSIGNMENT 35. Petechiae refers to the small red or purple-colored spots that develop on the skin invarious parts of the body (Ganse et al., 2013). These spots develop when there is some minorbleeding due to a broken capillary on the skin. Due to Fiona’s recent bruising, the disease thatshould be investigated is vitamin C deficiency disease known as scurvy, because once itdevelops, it makes the blood vessels so weak such that they can be easily broken. 6.The test to be done to diagnose this disorder is the Complete Blood Count (CBC), so asto determine the hemoglobin and red blood cells concentrations in blood. The normalhemoglobin level for an adult female is 12 to 16g/dL. 7.The elevated RR and HR due to anemia are that the tissues have limited oxygen supply. Therefore, the respiratory system suffers breath shortness leading to increased respiration rates tosupply the available oxygen to tissues very fast. At the same time, the heart rate becomes highbecause the only available oxygenated blood needs to be supplied all over the body very fast. 8. Yes. This is because if Fiona has high blood glucose levels, she stands a risk ofdeveloping anemia. Diabetes causes renal damage, which is an organ which signals the synthesisof red blood cells upon need by the body, leading to low hemoglobin levels and thus anemia. 9. Leukemia is a type of cancer caused by increased production of damaged white bloodcells. This affects the bone marrow, a site where the blood cells are synthesized and spreadsthrough the lymphatic system (Davis et al., 2014).10. Hodgkin’s disease is a rare type of cancer which affects the lymphatic system (Ansell,2015). It is characterized by swelling in the neck and groins. The Hodgkin’s lymphoma ischaracterized by the presence of reed-Sternberg cell, which are basically the B cells. The non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is derived from either B or T cells. 11. Multiple myeloma is a type of cancer which develops in the plasma cells.
