1NURSING ASSIGNMENT 1. a.I become angry when things do not go according to my plan and people do not listen to my perspective when situations demands. I manage to handle my anger by resisting entering into arguments with the person and trying to speak with the person after getting relaxed. I am satisfied with my ability to control anger as I am not hypertensive and I take control over the situation with my patience. b.Once, I was very irritated with a client as he was trying to get personal and enter into a friendly relationship which was outside my scope of professional practice. The client was over-friendly and he wanted my contact number so that we could talk with me regularly. I told the client that he can approach the staffs at the clinic whenever he wants help. No, the situation was different from other situations when I was angry. Apart from being angry, I was feeling afraid because of the strange behaviour of the client. In a psychiatric setting, overload of work and inappropriate behaviour of client or staffs can increase the risk of aggression and violence. Inpatient health care environment is important because incidence of violence ad aggression is most likely to occur in a busy clinic where staffs cannot attend to one patient at a time. 2. a. Cognitive behavioural therapy or counselling related to problem solving or relaxation training can be used to treat aggressive client. Both aims to mitigate aggressiveness; however cognitive behavioural therapist works to changes beliefs and perceptions of the client about the world, whereas psychotherapy emphasizes on skills to deal with aggression (McKay et al. 2015). b. Use of restraint and seclusion is controversial for treatment of aggressive patient as it violates human rights and increases risk of injury for patient. Some of the legal issues that may arise due to use of restraint and seclusion include it may lead to ethical issues and violation of code of conduct for practice (Muir‐Cochrane, Baird and McCann 2015). c. I would for signs like aggressive posture, verbal abuse and tendency to harm others. To ensure safety of other clients, I would avoid standing directly in front of the client and move away from the client.
