NURSING ASSIGNMENT1
Introduction
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander are also commonly recognized as
the indigenous Australians who are considered as the population of Australia
prior to the British colonisation. The health condition of the Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander people refer to their individual traditional, social, emotive and
mental comfort. There are still various groups of indigenous population who are
experiencing bad health condition as compared to the existing Australian
population and the rate of young people dying among the indigenous group is
much high as compared to the other group (Healthdirect.gov.au, 2019). This
study will focus on the well-being condition of the aboriginal people and highlight
a contemporary well-being strategy that will aim to improve the health issues
faded by this Aboriginal community. The health condition that is more
widespread between the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander are cardiovascular
disease, respiratory disease, psychological health issues, chronic kidney illness
and diabetes. Therefore, in this study, the most prevent health condition that
affects the majority of the indigenous population will be explained in detail
(HealthInfoNet
et al. 2019). Maintaining a healthy status among the indigenous
group is one of the major challenge that is faced by the government of Australia
and hence different types of health awareness programs or care models are
prepared that will assist them in improving their health condition and
overcoming the social determinants of well-being responsible for the bad health
outcomes among the indigenous group (Battersby
et al. 2018). Therefore, this
study will provide enhanced emphasis on the indigenous community and their
health conditions.
Contemporary Healthcare Strategy
Improving the well-being outcome of the aboriginal people is one of the
major challenge that is faced by the government of Australia hence in order to
overcome the challenge they are developing many healthcare programs and
focus on closing the gap. The majority of indigenous population reside in
economically disadvantaged area and poor socio-economic condition that
therefore, increases the possibility of acquiring any chronic illness or health
condition (Deravin, Francis and Anderson 2018). The population of indigenous
community lack awareness and proper education regarding the various types of
health conditions and what preventive actions they should acquire in case of any
illness, therefore the primary healthcare strategy that is established and

provided to the indigenous population is Closing the Gap program for improved
indigenous health outcome (Department of the prime Minister and Cabinet,
2019).
This strategy had focused on acknowledging the significance of
aboriginal’s health condition and therefore developing a positive and therapeutic
relationship by motivating them to effectively engage in their wellness program
and adapt the approaches for an enhanced health outcome. Closing the Gap
concentrates on educating the lives and health condition of the aboriginal
population and to deliver best health outcomes this program was initiated by the
Australian government (National Indigenous Australians Agency, 2019). Since
2008, the Australian government is working hard to progress the health,
employment and education outcome of the aboriginal’s individuals and also aims
exclude or reduce the gap among the non-indigenous and aboriginal population.
In 2018, the Council of Australian Government (COAG) formed a formal and
genuine association with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in
order to confirm the implementation of Closing the Gap and create a common
forum for the people. The primary goal of this program is as follows (Gannon
2018):
Improve the access of different healthcare services available for the
aboriginal population
Efficiently and accurately identify the patients belonging to aboriginal
population
Supporting the health facilities to deliver appropriate and culturally-
profound care to the aboriginal patients
Improving access, superiority and encourage partnerships among
Indigenous community-measured organisations and the health services for
arranging and delivering the facility responses.
This program will identify the culturally-profound and high-quality
healthcare assistance for the aboriginal’s population and the patients to
overcome various health issues.
Hence, this program is effective as well as efficient for increasing the level of
awareness among the aboriginal’s population and assisting them in
understanding the healthcare strategy that is developed by the government to
help them in enhancing their overall health outcomes.
