Alcohol Abuse:
Alcohol abuse can be defined as a mental
health disorder as per the Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder (DSM).
Excessive alcohol use and habitual drinking is
referred to as alcohol abuse

Alcohol Consumption Pattern in
Australia:
According to the statistical evidence, in the
year 2014-2015, 80.6% of the Australians aged
18 years and above consumed alcohol
(Manning et al. 2013)
Further 85.5% males had been reported to
consume alcohol against 75.7% (Kalant 2013).
66.2% of adolescents aged in between 15 to
17 years have been reported to consume
alcohol more than the recommended level
(Sahealth.sa.gov.au 2019).

Physical Health disorders:
Alcohol abuse and binge drinking have been reported to cause more
than 200 physical health disorders, some of which include (Hemphill et
al. 2014):
Foetal alcohol syndrome
Hepatitis
Gastritis
Cardiovascular disease
Liver disease
Pancreatitis
Neurological disorders
Diabetes
Cancers
Stroke
PCOS
