1PhD PROPOSALEnhancing Preceptor Skill Development Using Simulation StrategiesRetention of new graduate registered nurse continues to be a problem in the domain ofboth health care organizations and nursing profession (Shinners & Franqueiro, 2015). Acomprehensive preceptor engagement program along with in-house residency is the two mostvital factors in attaining success for the nurses in transition (Anderson, Hair & Todero, 2012).At present, the nurse preceptor needs to pass through numerous challenging experiences likeincreased level of complexity of patient care, decreased length in the hospital stay anddiminished number of nursing resources (Picconi, 2011). All these make it extremely difficultfor the nursing staffs to assume the role of preceptor for the newly hired nursing professionalsand the nursing students while balancing the need to providing quality care to the patient(Horton et al., 2012). The aim of the research is to modify, revise and restructure the preceptor educationprogram in order to enhance the proper development of the preceptor skills. The aim is basedon the results obtained from the research of Shinners & Franqueiro (2015). The mainmodification of the preceptor skills will take place via application of simulation strategieslike transforming classroom for nursing education into a live laboratory where propercoaching and feedback skills will be stringently analyzed. The research will also aim togenerate videos or case studies of realistic clinical scenarios as experienced by the preceptorsin order to explain the disruptive behavior. These video tapes and case studies will act as amode of reference for problem analysis and subsequent redesigning of the simulationstrategies in order enrich the preceptor skill. The importance of the study is successfulmodification of the receptor skill via simulation strategy. This will help to promote high-levelof engagement and increased level of participation among the both the preceptees, preceptorsand other staff members. Such increase in engagement will further help the participants to
