The main project goal would be to understand the extent to which nurses follow fall prevention guidelines set for practice in the setting and the future need of providing education to the workforce regarding the same.

Exercise-based Interventions to Reduce Falls in Older Adults: Findings and Recommendations

This article reviews four primary research articles on the effectiveness of exercise-based interventions in reducing falls in older adults living in residential care facilities. The studies suggest that virtual reality training, self-management and exercise fall prevention interventions, and combined exercise programs can reduce fall risk, improve balance, and enhance quality of life in older adults. However, limitations such as small sample sizes and short study durations were noted. The findings provide evidence for person-centred care planning and targeted education for older adults living in residential care facilities.

Research Foundations

Elderly people are at a high risk of falls and consequent injuries. A recent survey conducted showed that approximately 30% of individuals aged above 65 years fall annually. The research question for this study is, ‘Is educational intervention effective in reducing the risk factors that result in falls among the elderly people. The results obtained show that there are many prevailing factors that result in falls. Evidence based research has shown that simple strategies such as creating awareness can help to reduce the risk of falling. In conclusion, there are several factors which contribute to falls among adults. However, through evidence based approaches, it is possible to reduce the rate of falls.
